Job Description

Position Summary:

We seek to hire a Legal Counsel who will be a key member of the Overseas Labour Legal and Litigation Team supporting Alibaba Cloud's rapid expansion around the world. The successful candidate will primarily support Alibaba Cloud's litigation, arbitration and enforcement needs in over 20 countries globally (not including China), with occasional involvement in labour and employment legal issues. This role requires a proactive legal professional who can work closely with cross-functional teams and offer practical, business-oriented legal advice.

Key Responsibilities:

Litigation

• Manage and resolve legal disputes involving Alibaba Cloud, coordinate with external law firms, formulate case strategies, drive execution, and ensure favorable outcomes to resolve disputes effectively

• Receive notices from law enforcement agencies, manage inspections, coordinate internally to collect and organize relevant data, and respond appropriately to authorities

• Analyze individual cases to identify systemic risks, extract root causes, and drive improvements across related business processes.

• Assist Alibaba Cloud in identifying, anticipating, and resolving litigation risk events, and provide guidance and training on handling emergency situations.

• Manage relationships with external law firms

Position Requirement

1. Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) from an accredited institution.

2. Qualification to practice law in at least one jurisdiction (e.g. Hong Kong, Singapore or U.S.) but with solid experience in cross-border legal affairs.

3. At least 8 years of litigation and investigation experience in a law firm and/or multi-national corporation.

4. Labour law and technology sector experience would be a plus.

5. Fluent in English and Mandarin (both spoken and written).

6. Highly-motivated and able to work independently and under pressure.

7. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

8. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

9. Able to travel internationally
