Job Description - Director, Marketing & Transaction Services and Operation, GFS Asia

Position Overview

This role is a combination of Marketing and Transaction Services activities (MTS) and Operations activities for the GFS Asia Business.

It is anticipated that around two-third of the candidates’ time will be focusing on transaction related support to the GFS Asia team, and one-third of the time on Operational aspects of the GFS Asia Business.

Under the MTS role, the candidate is expected to lead, coordinate, and liaise cross-functional project teams to develop large and complex reinsurance and financing transactions within GFS’ mandate in Asia. 

While under the Operational role, the candidate is expected to provide support to VP, Head of Strategic Initiatives and Operations, GFS Asia to ensure the GFS Asia business operates with appropriate infrastructure, process, standards, and internal control.

Responsibilities

MTS

  • Liaise with stakeholders of varying levels (including business development, pricing, investments, legal, and other corporate partners as needed) to structure and complete highly complex financially-motivated reinsurance transactions in Asia.
  • Facilitate the processes of analyzing transactional details through interaction with the various technical experts in pricing, risk analysis, structured finance, accounting, legal, investments, tax, etc.. Document and follow up with other team members to ensure resolution of issues that arise during the RGA transaction analysis process to maximize the chance of a successful outcome. Work with the project team to track any issues relevant to transactional work and coordinate with the appropriate technical experts to make sure these issues get properly resolved in a timely manner to maximize the chance of success.
  • Work closely with the various business development colleagues or local office representatives to facilitate and support the sales, structuring and negotiation process with the client.
  • Organize project meetings and develop communications in support of the project team, identify and document follow-up items resulting from meetings. Provide regular updates of project progress on applicable tools or in meetings.
  • Coordinate all necessary approval documentation and meetings to ensure timely approvals from GFS senior management as well as various corporate oversight committees.
  • Operations

  • Supporting VP, Head of Strategic Initiatives and Operations, GFS Asia on operations management matter in relation to GFS Asia business. Including any project works that may come up.
  • Working with Corporate Partners and Local Business units across underwriting, claims, administration, finance, valuation, compliance, legal, risk management to ensure efficient and effective operational flow on on-boarding of new business, and management of in-force business.
  • Represent GFS in Local Business Unit forum as necessary on operational related matters.

    Requirements

    Candidate profile

  • The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience working in an insurance or reinsurance environment.
  • Strong project management skills and track record.
  • Exposure to middle / back-office activities in past roles including valuation, finance or administration.
  • Good level of knowledge of reinsurance business.
  • Strong commercial viewpoint and able to build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Technical knowledge of actuarial science, investments, contract law, accounting or finance is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate international projects across multiple time-zones.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
  • Advanced investigative, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously; Ability to appropriately balance priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department/team projects.
  • Advanced negotiating and persuasion skills.
