Job Description - Equity Trader

Job Summary

This position is responsible for executing investment decisions efficiently and accurately, with a primary focus on equities, while supporting portfolio managers with market intelligence, liquidity assessment, and trade implementation. The role requires close collaboration with portfolio management, operations, compliance, and risk functions to ensure best execution and strong pre- and post-trade controls.

The role is primarily focused on listed equities across global markets, including Hong Kong, the US, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea, with secondary exposure to fixed income and equity derivatives.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Execute trades in accordance with portfolio managers’ instructions, investment guidelines, and best execution requirements.
  2. Monitor live markets, order flow, liquidity, spreads, and volatility to support timely and effective trade execution.
  3. Deliver market information, recommend trading ideas, and offer feedback on execution conditions to portfolio managers and investment teams.
  4. Maintain accurate trade records and ensure timely communication with brokers, counterparties, custodians, and operations teams.
  5. Coordinate pre-trade checks, trade booking, confirmation, allocation, and post-trade settlement processes.
  6. Support compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, investment limits, and client mandates.
  7. Assist in resolving trade breaks, failed settlements, corporate action issues, and other trading-related exceptions.
  8. Contribute to trading process improvement, trading analytics, automation initiatives, and workflow enhancement where applicable.
  9. Support periodic reporting, performance attribution inputs, and other investment operations tasks as needed.
  10. Build and maintain effective relationships with brokers, counterparties, internal teams, and external service providers.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree or above in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  2. 3–8 years of relevant trading, execution, or investment operations experience in asset management, securities, private banking, or any other buy-side environment.
  3. Experience in trading equities in Hong Kong, the US, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea is preferred.
  4. Strong understanding of market mechanics, trade lifecycle, and order execution processes.
  5. Familiarity with fixed income and equity derivatives is an advantage.
  6. Knowledge of Hong Kong market practices and exchange-related processes is desirable.
  7. Proficiency in Bloomberg, Excel, and standard trading/portfolio systems is preferred.
  8. Strong analytical, numerical, and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
  9. Fluent in English and Chinese; Putonghua and/or Cantonese is an advantage.
