We’re seeking someone to join our team as a Director, Global Financial Crimes – PWM Client Risk Unit in Legal & Compliance to oversee the GFC PWM Client Risk Unit (“CRU”) and serve as point of escalation in Hong Kong on matters related to review of higher risk clients during onboarding, periodic review and trigger events.

Global Financial Crimes (“GFC”), an integral part of the global Legal and Compliance Division, coordinates the day-to-day implementation of the Firm’s enterprise-wide financial crime prevention efforts. GFC has responsibility for governance, oversight and execution of the Firm’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions, Anti-Corruption, Anti-Tax Evasion, and Government and Political Activities Compliance programs.
GFC also develops and assists in the development of appropriate policies and procedures, including those designed to help the business units to know their clients and conduct appropriate due diligence and to prevent, detect and report potentially suspicious activities.
GFC has dedicated coverage managers and teams who advise the business unit regarding their AML, economic sanctions, anti-corruption, anti-tax evasion, and political activity obligations and on particular clients and transactions.
Morgan Stanley’s GFC team is charged with day-to-day oversight and coordination of the AML, economic sanctions, anti-corruption, anti-tax evasion, and political activity obligations program covering the Firm's businesses globally. The Firm is currently seeking a driven and experienced professional to cover the Private Wealth Management (“PWM”) business. This role is based in Hong Kong.
What you'll do in the role:
Oversee the GFC PWM Client Risk Unit (“CRU”) and serve as point of escalation in Hong Kong on matters related to review of higher risk clients during onboarding, periodic review and trigger events.
Manage, develop and coach the CRU team to enhance their subject matter expertise in support of the Firm’s GFC program.
Advise on transactional due diligence with respect to clients, counterparties, co-investors, and target companies or assets and provide guidance to the business on due diligence requirements.
Supervise KYC and client due diligence processes including assessing the financial crime risk associated with potential and existing high-risk clients via the EDD process.
Draft, revise and execute on policies and procedures.
Develop content and deliver training to the business units, Risk, Operations and other functions. Monitor regulatory developments and new rules or requirements.
Assist with responding to regulatory exams and other inquiries and internal audits, including overseeing document production.
What you'll bring to the role:
Bachelor’s degree.
At least 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in Financial Crimes Compliance, regulatory experience preferably relating to private wealth business, financial institutions or banking.
Strong working knowledge of Hong Kong’s AML/CFT and sanctions laws and regulations.
Experience in managing a team and working with overseas counterparts.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
