Head of ALM, Global Insurance

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Head of ALM, Global Insurance.

ALM is key to the success and long-term sustainability of the return to shareholders and policyholders in insurance businesses. The role will be a key contributor for global oversight of the Insurance Manufacturing entities' long term strategy for 5 separately regulated jurisdictions (Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Mexico, Bermuda), with a view to achieving efficient strategic asset allocation and utilisation of risks capacity in the regulatory and financial domains. Close partnership with the Risk, Investment and Actuarial functions will be critical, along with strong engagement with local insurance stakeholders, managing the Insurance business impact on key KPIs.

In this role you will

• Drive the ALM community and lead ALM strategic developments and framework across HSBC Life
• Align ALM strategic development directions along Actuarial, Finance, Risks and Investment functions at Group and local insurance levels
• Lead Group insurance ALM and local ALM teams in developing & refining ALM models and strengthening ALM and hedging capability at Group and local entities.
• Oversee the review of ALM exercises, including the assessment of Strategic Asset Allocation (SAAs), including strategic hedging Strategies complementing the SAAs
• Manage projects and coordinate teams in the implementation of Group ALM Risk Monitoring management information (MI)
• Support and develop ALM optimization under IFRS17 framework and local solvency regimes (new RBC regimes in Singapore, Hong Kong, C-Ross2 in China)
• Contribute to and evaluate new product development and new investment initiatives from local statutory solvency, IFRS17 CSM, Economic Capital and ALM point of view
• Oversee the model governance required by Group Model Risk policy

To be successful you will need

• Qualified actuary with senior experience in life insurance companies or consultancy firms under a similar role
• A clear communicator to engage with senior stakeholders across the business and with the ALM community within HSBC Life entities
• Knowledge in IFRS17 reporting, CROSS II, Singapore or Hong Kong local regulatory solvency requirement
• Experience in derivatives hedging and investment is a plus
• Prior experience in leading ALM projects using SunGuard Asset Liabilites Stochastic (ALS) platform
• Ability to drive projects through providing appropriate project framework, clarity on content and deliverables and effectively engaging and managing stakeholders.
• Strong influencing and communication skills and an ability to work with international and virtual teams
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills; including ability to "think outside the box"
