About the Role
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Lift & Escalator Specialist to oversee the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all lifts, escalators, and vertical transportation systems within the property. The successful candidate will act as the primary coordinator between the hotel and external maintenance contractors, ensuring all equipment is maintained to the highest safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lift & Escalator Operations
- Monitor the daily operation and performance of all passenger lifts, service lifts, dumbwaiters, escalators, and related equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify operational issues, safety concerns, abnormal noise, vibrations, or equipment defects.
- Ensure all vertical transportation systems remain in safe and serviceable condition at all times.
- Respond promptly to lift breakdowns, entrapments, and emergency situations.
Maintenance Coordination
- Act as the key liaison between the property and lift/escalator maintenance contractors.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, statutory inspections, testing, and certification requirements.
- Verify that all maintenance work is completed according to contract specifications, manufacturer recommendations, and regulatory requirements.
- Review maintenance reports and service records, ensuring defects are properly addressed and closed out.
- Follow up on recurring equipment issues and drive corrective actions with contractors.
Compliance & Safety Management
- Ensure compliance with all local lift and escalator regulations, codes, and safety requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date maintenance records, certificates, permits, inspection reports, and statutory documentation.
- Conduct safety audits and risk assessments related to lift and escalator operations.
- Ensure contractors follow site safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and lockout/tagout requirements.
- Support emergency preparedness plans and evacuation procedures involving vertical transportation systems.
Contractor & Vendor Management
- Monitor contractor performance against agreed service levels and maintenance standards.
- Attend service review meetings and recommend improvements to equipment reliability and maintenance practices.
- Verify the quality and completeness of repair works before acceptance.
- Coordinate major repairs, modernization projects, replacement works, and equipment upgrades.
- Review quotations, work proposals, and technical recommendations submitted by contractors.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
- Investigate equipment failures, service interruptions, and customer complaints related to lifts and escalators.
- Work closely with the Engineering team to identify root causes and implement long-term solutions.
- Monitor equipment reliability trends and recommend preventive measures to reduce downtime.
- Support commissioning, testing, and handover of new or upgraded equipment.
Asset Management & Reporting
- Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts and recommend stock levels for operational continuity.
- Prepare maintenance reports, downtime analysis, and performance indicators for management review.
- Assist in annual budgeting and capital expenditure planning for lift and escalator systems.
- Recommend modernization and asset enhancement initiatives to improve reliability, efficiency, and guest experience.
About You
- Relevant experience in lift and escalator maintenance, operations, or contractor supervision.
- Diploma or Certificate in related discipline is preferred
- Strong understanding of lift and escalator systems, safety standards, and statutory requirements.
- Experience coordinating external service providers and maintenance contractors.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, maintenance reports, and equipment specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and respond to emergencies when required.
- Experience in hotels, commercial buildings, shopping malls, hospitals, or large-scale facilities is an advantage.
Preferred Competencies
- Knowledge or past experience with Schindler is highly preferred
- Experience managing modernization or replacement projects.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems
