Job Description - Mechanical Site Engineer

About Kodifly:

Kodifly is a venture-backed tech startup with a diverse team of professionals based in Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. We’re revolutionizing infrastructure monitoring through geospatial intelligence, digital twins, and AI-driven analytics. Our flagship product, SpatialSense, empowers teams to build safer, greener, and more efficient infrastructure. We’re scaling rapidly, and we need your expertise to fuel our growth.

The Role:

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Site Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between our mechanical workshop and on-site deployments. You’ll be instrumental in assembling, deploying, and maintaining our advanced LiDAR-based scanning systems and sensor platforms. The role involves practical, on-the-ground work in workshop fabrication, field setup, testing, and troubleshooting.

If you’re passionate about GIS, surveying, and digital twins—and love getting your hands dirty building real-world systems—we want to hear from you. Cantonese proficiency is a strong plus to engage with local stakeholders and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on Assembly & Fabrication: Build and assemble mechanical mounts, sensor enclosures, brackets, and rigs for scanning equipment.

  • Mechanical Design & Prototyping: Collaborate with the hardware team to develop and iterate mechanical components for LiDAR and camera-based systems using tools like SolidWorks.

  • Field Deployment & Setup: Install equipment on-site (e.g., on vehicles, tripods, or structures), align and calibrate sensors, and ensure stable and safe operation.

  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Proactively identify and fix issues during setup and operations - be it wiring, structural alignment, or hardware interference.

  • Workshop Operations: Operate basic tools and machinery to support custom builds and repairs.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and project managers, to align mechanical designs with project requirements.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed logs of assembly procedures, field activities, and incidents to support iterative improvements.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Educational Background: Higher diploma or Associate degree from a technical college.

  • Experience: 1 to 2 years in mechanical design and on-site engineering roles, preferably within growth-focused tech and AI environments.

  • Technical Expertise: Experience in construction/surveying + GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS), geospatial tech (LiDAR, GPS), and camera systems.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical systems on-site.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in diverse environments, from workshops to active infrastructure sites.

  • Startup-Ready Mindset: Thrive in ambiguity, adapt quickly, and embrace ownership.

  • Hands-On Mindset: You're a builder, fixer, and doer. Comfortable with using tools, solving practical challenges, and iterating in the field.

  • Certifications: Valid Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card) is required.

  • Driving License: A valid Hong Kong driving license is preferred for traveling to deployment sites.

  • Communication Skills: Confidently engage stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

    • Cantonese fluency (spoken/written) is a significant advantage for local client and stakeholder interactions.

  • Bonus: Familiarity with digital twins, BIM, or cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).

Why Join Kodifly?

  • Be part of a rocketship: Backed by top investors, we’re scaling rapidly—your work will directly impact our trajectory.

  • Collaborate with a diverse team: Work alongside experts in AI, geospatial tech, and engineering at Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.

  • Grow with purpose: Accelerate your career with equity options, mentorship, and autonomy.

  • Innovate fearlessly: Experiment with emerging tech in a culture that rewards bold ideas.
