Job Description:
Reporting to the Head of Legal, Asia this role is responsible for providing general legal services and support to Sun Life Asia and the Asia Regional Office (as well as its complementary offices) and to provide support on other initiatives as assigned by the Head of Legal and other team members.
Preferred skills
Able to identify legal issues and practically apply legal principles in a business environment
Able to provide solutions in a fast paced, multi-jurisdictional regional support environment
Familiar with general contractual concepts and principles
Interested in insurance business/insurance industry issues
Interested in and familiar with artificial intelligence and latest trends
Legal research skills, ability to track and analyze regulatory trends
Strong people and communication skills, with team spirit
Solutions-oriented and comfortable working with senior stakeholders (where relevant)
Interested in company secretarial, corporate governance and legal document review
Strong English language skills with Chinese language skills (preferred)
Qualifications
LL.B or Bachelor of Laws or BA in Law or equivalent
At least 2-3 years of relevant legal experience (in-house or law firm)
Responsibilities
Company Secretarial
Assist with corporate secretarial matters for Asia Regional Office and its complementary offices
Assist with matters between Enterprise Corporate Secretary's Department and with company secretaries of each Sun Life Asia entity /JVs to report on company changes and respond to ad hoc queries
Responsible for maintaining and keeping current Asia Org Chart as well as board and committee members of each Sun Life Asia entity / JVs, and assisting with any changes accordingly
Commercial and Other Legal Services
Supporting the review of intercompany and commercial contracts (such as non-disclosure agreements, vendor contracts, etc.) for Asia Regional Office and its complementary offices
Conduct legal and general research and analysis
Support other commercial initiatives assigned by Head of Legal or other team members
Corporate Governance
Assist on approval process for new or updated operating guidelines at Asia Regional Office and its complementary offices
Assist with reviewing and updating approvals on new or significant updates of Sun Life policies/operating guidelines from Sun Life Asia sponsors
Digital transformation
Maintain and keep current digital records for ARO Legal on relevant Sun Life platform(s) e.g. Kanban board, Sharepoint, Legal Tracker, iManage etc.; and assisting to respond to queries regarding such platform(s).
Supporting the wider adoption of GenAI in the Legal team
