Research Analyst Global Long/Short Equity (Top-Tier Fund)

I am working with a high-performing, fast-scaling hedge fund in Hong Kong seeking to hire a genuinely differentiated Research Analyst into its global long/short equity team. This mandate is for an investor who produces alpha.

The fund is looking for someone capable of operating at the level expected within long / short or multi-manager platforms - rigorous, risk-aware, catalyst-driven, and comfortable underwriting both longs and shorts with equal conviction.

The Seat

You will be expected to:

• Generate actionable, high-conviction long and short ideas with clear risk/reward framing
• Identify variant perception opportunities and structural mispricing's
• Underwrite shorts with proper catalyst, timing discipline, and risk control
• Build institutional-grade models with scenario analysis and downside calibration
• Pressure-test theses through deep primary work and differentiated information channels
• Operate with intellectual honesty - kill ideas quickly when the data changes
• Engage in high-level investment debate with senior decision-makers
• This is a performance seat. Ideas must translate into P&L.

Mandatory Background

Please read carefully:

• Global coverage experience is required - (Primarily HK/China-only backgrounds will not be considered).
• Demonstrated short-selling experience with real exposure and accountability - (Pure long-only or long-biased profiles will not be considered).
• Sector expertise in industries outside of Software/Internet, Industrials, and Healthcare
• Experience within a true long/short hedge fund or pod platform
• Independent idea generation - not purely PM-directed modelling support
• Strong risk/reward framing and capital allocation judgment

Strong academic pedigree

• Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar discipline
• CFA or equivalent credentials viewed positively
• 3-10+ years of relevant buy or sell-side experience (flexible for exceptional profiles)

Compensation

• Base salary aligned with leading platform levels
• Performance bonus: 3-12 months, tied directly to individual contribution and fund performance
