Job Description

As an Underwriting Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

Take the lead in shaping underwriting strategy and managing risk exposure across a diverse general insurance portfolio
Underwrite and grow Motor, P&C, and A&H business with a strong focus on profitability and portfolio quality
Play a key role in reinsurance treaty renewals, including analysis, wording review, and negotiation support
Handle a broad mix of direct business, qualitative placements, and inward treaty reinsurance
Contribute to product innovation, enhancement, and portfolio optimisation through market and customer insights
Monitor portfolio performance, premium production, and credit exposure to ensure targets and controls are met
Work closely with clients, intermediaries, and internal stakeholders to support business growth
Partner with senior management to develop underwriting and business strategies
Support operational excellence by improving processes, systems, and service delivery
Mentor and develop team members, helping to build a strong and capable underwriting function

The Successful Applicant

A successful Underwriting Manager should have:

Degree holder in Insurance or a related discipline, with professional qualifications such as ANZIIF (Senior Associate / Fellow), CIP, or equivalent preferred
Extensive experience (10+ years) in underwriting, reinsurance, and client servicing, including at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership capacity
A mature, self-directed professional with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
Demonstrates a proactive, decisive, and results-oriented approach to work
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for reporting and analysis
Fluent in written and spoken English and Cantonese; working knowledge of Mandarin is required
