Underwriting Manager (GI) - up to 60k

We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead our client's General Insurance (GI) underwriting function, driving portfolio performance and underwriting excellence. This role is responsible for driving underwriting strategy, managing portfolio performance, ensuring risk discipline, and leading a team of underwriters to achieve profitable growth.

Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Portfolio Management

• Develop and implement underwriting strategies aligned with company objectives
• Oversee GI product lines (e.g., property, casualty, liability, SME, motor, or specialty lines)
• Monitor portfolio performance, including loss ratios, pricing adequacy, and profitability
• Approve complex or high-value underwriting cases within delegated authority
• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters
• Set performance targets and conduct regular performance reviews
• Foster a strong underwriting discipline and risk culture

Business Development

• Collaborate with distribution teams and brokers to grow the business
• Maintain strong relationships with key intermediaries and clients
• Identify market opportunities and new product development initiatives

Risk & Governance

• Ensure appropriate risk selection and pricing standards
• Work closely with actuarial, claims, and risk management teams
• Support audit and compliance reviews

Requirements
Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, or related discipline
• Professional qualifications (e.g., ACII/FCII or equivalent) preferred
• Minimum 8-12 years of experience in general insurance underwriting, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role
• Strong knowledge of GI products, market practices, and regulatory environment
