Buyer & Vendor Manager - U.S. (Fashion) Launched in 2014, Tmall Global is the gateway to China for international merchants and the go-to shopping platform for more than 900 million Chinese consumers. Tmall Global currently offers products from 87 countries and regions and 29,000+ brands across all consumer categories. Brands of all sizes are interested in selling into the Chinese market. They have different objectives and strategies and are in various stages of market entry so a one-size-fits-all solution would not work for everybody. At Tmall Global, we offer different solutions to provide more options so brands can be setup for success. Our business development and buying teams play a critical role in providing resources and guidance to help merchants tap into the Chinese market. We are seeking a fashion buyer and vendor manager to join our U.S. team covering the Americas region. You can be based in Los Angeles or New York and work closely with our headquarter team in Hangzhou, China! You will have these major responsibilities: . Proactively drive procurement activities in collaboration with various stakeholders to complete category sales targets and new vendor acquisition objectives . Work with brands and suppliers to procure goods suited for the Chinese consumer base . Perform category management which include conducting market opportunity analysis, selecting and managing suppliers and merchants, negotiating and completing onboarding processes . Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to manage effective vendor relationships, identify and implement opportunities/processes to influence improvement in service, quality, delivery, cost and optimal business terms . Strong vendor management skills, ability to thoroughly review and negotiate terms and conditions to ensure compliance . Leverage external third party resources to meet Tmall Global's business objectives in the U.S. market . Understand the assigned category from market trends, products, pricing, competitive landscape and opportunities . Act as a project lead as part of a team on various projects to ensure team goals are met . Other assignments as required,Basic qualifications: . Proven experience in negotiating, reviewing and managing vendor requirements such as contracts, policies and procedures . Proven experience in category management and/or buying . Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically and independently . Understanding of current market conditions and category trends . Demonstrated ability to effectively interact in a cross-functional environment with all levels of executive management internally and externally . More than 5 years of experience, ideally worked with major retailers or brands, with experience in multinational company and cross-border business preferred . Strong influencing skill to persuade and close deals . Robust project management skills Preferred qualifications: . Ability to make strategic decisions and to inspire others to share their vision and support them to reach a common goal . Take initiative, think creatively and get results . Fluent in English and Mandarin (speaking, reading and writing) . Well-developed understanding of ecommerce industry . Experience in the fashion industry The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $106,400/year and $168,000/year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. If hired, employee will be in an at-will position and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
