Chief Technology Officer

The CTO will report directly to the CEO; mainly focus the efforts on (1) identifying technology trends and exploring new R&D directions; (2) driving cross-R&D collaborations; (3) engaging universities to deepen collaborations; (4) acting as the technology leader in vetting of projects; (5) representing ASTRI to speak at technology events; and (6) acting as a technical advisor to engage customers’ technical teams. The CTO will work closely with the R&D teams & leaders; and this position is a full-time employment.

 

Job Responsibilities:

• Set the overall R&D strategy, roadmap and direction; assist CEO on technology and product roadmap for ASTRI to stay at the forefront of scientific advancement

• Identify technology trends and explore new R&D directions – including recruitment and hiring of new R&D leaders for leading new technological trends

• Drive cross technology collaborations with different technology teams

• Foster collaboration between the R&D teams, industry and tertiary institutions to advance R&D capability and enhance HK’s competitive edge

• Represent ASTRI for technology conferences and summits

• Act as the technology leader in vetting of projects

• Develop new collaboration opportunities and joint technology development initiatives with universities, institutions and industry partners globally; set overall industries network strategies

• Be capable of being the leader of technology for Hong Kong as the CTO of the largest government-funded research institute

Job Requirements:

• PhD in a relevant science or engineering discipline is desirable

• 15+ years’ experience in research and development, including solid experience in project management

• With successful track records in senior R&D management and technical leadership with reputable organisations; extensive experience in working as an industrialist is preferred

• Being a highly respected technical leader in local and international technical communities

• Experience with IP and patent portfolio management is a plus

• With a good understanding of China and worldwide markets and technology trends

• Experience in commercialisation of R&D outcomes is an advantage

• Proven ability to effectively deal with key stakeholders

• With excellent interpersonal and communications skills in both Chinese and English; and fluency in spoken Chinese (Putonghua) and English is a must

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical and dental benefits, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
