Reports to: Deputy General Counsel, APAC (Legal & Data Protection)
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the APAC regional data protection counsel and the first point of contact in APAC to drive and manage data protection topics in all APAC countries/jurisdictions where KB runs businesses (both RVS and CVS), including mainland China, India, Japan, Korea, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore.
- Develop, review and maintain data governance and protection policies to ensure compliance with data protection laws in APAC.
- Provide timely and accurate data governance and protection advice to internal clients.
- Devise and conduct trainings on data protection.
- Actively monitor latest legislation development and keep organization informed of the same, work out solutions to keep abreast of evolving data protection regulatory environment.
- Work with various departments across the organization (such as HR and IT) to maintain requisite understanding and awareness of evolving data protection landscape and to design and implement necessary actions.
- Support KB global data protection team in developing and maintaining global data protection policies and initiatives, and ensure compliance in APAC region.
- Draft, negotiate and review data protection clauses/agreements, handle data protection incidents, coordinate and perform data protection audits, in APAC region.
- Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Laws or above.
- At least 5 years of work experience, with a minimum of 2 years of extensive/focused experience in data protection laws, particularly those in China (personal data, cybersecurity, data security), is required.
- Strong knowledge of APAC and EU data protection and privacy legal frameworks.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of China data protection laws is a must.
- Qualification on data privacy such as CIPP or the equivalent will be a plus.
- Experienced in project management in the data protection area, and in particular designing and implementing the regional aspects and nuances in a global data protection program.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance business needs with legal risks.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English and Mandarin, able to clearly and succinctly communicate legal advice.
- Ability to work independently, self-driven, learning and strive to improve company's data protection practice constantly.
