Early Childhood Education: Health, Safety and Welfare

Background

EDU2260ECD Early Childhood Education: Health, Safety and Welfare is a 3-credit-unit 2000-level course and is a core course in the part-time Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education programme. It is presented in Chinese.

This course aims to facilitate students to:

1. Identify and evaluate issues of health, safety and welfare of children;
2. Analyse early childhood settings from different perspectives as a teacher and carer;
3. Apply caring skills to cater to children’s physical, mental and psychosocial health at different developmental ages; and
4. Design and evaluate education activities to promote health and safety concepts and awareness in children and families.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee(s) will be responsible mainly for the following:

• Preparing a course guide;
• Developing and translating teaching and learning materials; and
• Developing assessment items.

Candidates

Candidates are expected to possess the following:

• A higher degree, and preferably an earned doctoral degree, in an area related to Early Childhood Education, Education and/or other related disciplines; 
• An excellent command of written Chinese, effective communication skills and the ability to work independently; and
•  Preference will be given to those who have experience in teaching early childhood education/ Language or materials design at tertiary level.
