Job Description - Immigration Attorney (Paralegal and Legal Assistant Duties)

Immigration Attorney (Paralegal Legal Assistant Duties)

Why Apply to New Frontier Immigration Law

Join the New Frontier Immigration Law team and help change the lives of 1 million undocumented immigrants in the USA. Our mid-sized law firm in Phoenix, AZ is committed to humanitarian-based immigration and finding innovative solutions for seemingly impossible problems.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a licensed Immigration attorney to provide paralegal and legal assistant support to our U.S.-based immigration attorneys. This unique role allows you to work on meaningful humanitarian immigration cases while our U.S. offices are closed, ensuring seamless 24-hour case progression.

You'll work remotely during your country's daytime hours (which correspond to U.S. evening/night hours), preparing case files, drafting documents, conducting legal research, and assembling applications so that when our U.S. attorneys start their workday, cases are ready to review and file.

This is a mission-driven role where your work directly impacts families seeking safety, reunification, and legal status in the United States. You'll be part of a global team committed to humanitarian immigration advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Review client intake information and organize supporting documentation (birth certificates, marriage certificates, police records, medical records, affidavits, etc.)

  • Draft cover letters, legal memoranda, and case summaries for attorney review

  • Prepare evidentiary exhibits and organize them according to USCIS filing requirements

  • Conduct legal research on immigration law, case precedents, country conditions, and USCIS policy guidance

  • Draft declarations, affidavits, and hardship statements for humanitarian cases

  • Research state-specific requirements for SIJS predicate orders and family court filings

EOIR & Court Support:

  • Prepare removal defense packages including asylum applications, cancellation of removal filings, and bond motions

  • Organize evidence for Immigration Court hearings (Master Calendar and Individual Hearings)

  • Draft motions to terminate, motions to reopen, and motions to reconsider

  • Compile country conditions evidence and expert witness materials

Quality Control & Compliance:

  • Review applications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with USCIS requirements

  • Conduct internal quality checks before attorney final review

  • Ensure all deadlines are tracked and cases are filed timely

  • Maintain organized digital case files using Filevine case management software

Client Communication Support:

  • Draft client correspondence and case status updates for attorney approval

  • Prepare interview preparation materials for USCIS interviews

  • Translate documents (if applicable language skills)

  • Assist with client document collection requests

Collaboration & Handoff:

  • Provide detailed case notes and handoff summaries for U.S. attorneys each morning

  • Participate in virtual team meetings (may require flexibility for U.S. business hours occasionally)

  • Collaborate with U.S.-based paralegals and attorneys through Slack, Microsoft Teams, or similar platforms

  • Flag urgent issues or questions for attorney attention

Work Schedule

  • Your local hours:

    • India: Approximately 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM IST (next day)

Requirements

Education & Licensure:

  • J.D. or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution in your country
