Job Description - Data Science Advisor

Data Science Advisor

Position Overview:

The Data Platform and Analytics engineering (DPaAS) team in the Finance Technology group is looking for aData Science Advisor to provide functional expertise and guidance for key data projects within DPaAS. The Data Science Advisor will be responsible for leveraging Data Science principles and tools to analyze large data sets to build ML model and algorithms to derive business value and enable decision making. Some of the skills required would include strong technical expertise in SQL/Python, good understanding of machine learning and AI to deploy data science tools in AWS or Oracle cloud platforms to collect & analyze large sets of structured and unstructured data, build ML models & Algorithms to solve specific business use cases. This role will work closely with various levels of stakeholders and vendor partner team members to understand the current set of data integration services deployed in AWS and or Oracle and help support any enhancements to those services, partner with Product owners and subject matter experts to understand the data processing requirements and help devise solutions to meet those requirements. This role will also help troubleshoot any issues on the data integration layer and propose resolutions.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize data science and advanced analytics to create actionable insights and recommendations for business leaders to advance Cignas strategic objectives.
  • Create Machine Learning Solutions to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Apply best practice software engineering principles towards the development of applications, to put Machine Learning models into production.
  • Leverage Big Data and Data Science tools (i.e. one or more of SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Python, R) to both source and work with data.
  • Regularly communicate work with business stakeholders and management.
  • Stay up to date on latest analytic tools and techniques and strategize how to leverage these tools to modernize Data Platform and Analytics Services (DPaAS) organization.
  • Ensure solutions drive long term value while also ensuring they can integrate with current processes.
  • Test & Learn Pilots: collaborate with business leaders to design, launch, and measure robust pilots to test new solutions.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Strong technical skills to extract large amount of data throughSAS / Teradata / Hadoop / Oracle / SQLand construct easy to use tools and reports usingVBA/Tableau/R/Python/GIS(knowledge of or ability to learn Python required). Proficiency and Experience in tools such as Tamr, SageMaker and Jupyter Notebook is a plus.
  • Ability to build models and manage the model building process (data prep, model build, validation, and implementation).
  • Previous experience collaborating with others, establish working relationships, and communicating effectively across the organization.
  • Self-motivated and ability to influence, drive, and improve the above processes.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills to work with various matrix partners & stake holders.
  • Excellent analytical/troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to iterate quickly in an agile development process.
  • Ability to deliver full life cycle engagements.
  • Ability and desire to thrive in a proactive, high-pressure environment.

Required Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, or a related discipline and typically eight or more years of solid, diverse work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience
  • 4 to 5 years of experience in healthcare analytics/data science.
  • Statistical training in school or through work (ability to formulate and execute appropriate confidence intervals, regression modeling, various machine learning methods, etc.)

  • Demonstrable ability to deliver projects on time, with high quality, and within budget.
