Adabas DBA

Role Summary 

The Adabas DBA will be responsible for the administration, performance tuning, and support of Adabas databases and Natural applications running in mainframe environments. This role requires strong hands-on expertise in database administration, backup/recovery, and production support for critical enterprise systems. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Install, configure, and administer Adabas databases across development, test, and production environments. 

• Perform Adabas database tuning, performance monitoring, and capacity planning. 

• Manage Adabas utilities for backup, recovery, restructuring, and reorganization of databases. 

• Support Natural/Adabas application environments, including troubleshooting and incident resolution. 

• Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery procedures. 

• Monitor database health, security, and access controls in line with client and compliance standards. 

• Collaborate with application development, mainframe systems, and infrastructure teams to resolve production issues. 

• Maintain documentation for database configurations, standard operating procedures, and change records. 

• Participate in on-call/rotational support for critical production environments as required. 

• Support Adabas SQL Gateway, Entire Net-Work, and related Software AG product integrations where applicable. 

Required Skills & Experience 

• 5–10+ years of hands-on experience as an Adabas DBA in a mainframe (z/OS) environment. 

• Strong knowledge of Adabas utilities (ADAULD, ADASAV, ADAREP, ADAORD, etc.) and Natural. 

• Experience with database backup/recovery, restructuring, and performance tuning. 

• Familiarity with Software AG products such as Entire Net-Work, Entire System Server, and Adabas SQL Gateway. 

• Working knowledge of JCL, VSAM, and mainframe operating environments. 

• Understanding of database security, access management, and audit/compliance requirements. 

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage production incidents under pressure. 

• Good communication skills and the ability to work with distributed, cross-functional teams. 

• Willingness to travel or relocate to client locations across India as project needs dictate. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 

• Software AG Adabas/Natural certification(s) are a plus. 

• Prior experience in BFSI, Aviation, Automotive, or large enterprise IT environments preferred.
