Job Description - Alpha Business Project Management - Assistant Vice President

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a seasoned and delivery-focused Project and Portfolio Manager with a strong track record of successfully leading large, complex, client-facing transformation programs.

As part of the Alpha Business Project Management Team, you will drive the execution of strategic initiatives for both internal and external clients of State Street Bank. You will be responsible for managing programs across the full project lifecycle, overseeing key project deliverables or workstreams, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

What you will be responsible for

  • Support with the management of the central ALPHA project portfolio including status follow ups, challenge of content and various management reporting
  • Interact with the full Alpha business project organization and business/corporate functions as well as Alpha IT project organization regarding portfolio management
  • Ensure adherence to the relevant framework and procedure established for portfolio management
  • Manage large projects self-dependent from the beginning to the end by ensuring deliverables of the project lifecycle: initiation, planning, implementation, controlling, risk and cost management, scope and change management
  • Work closely with corporate functions, business leads & PMOs across all business lines and jurisdictions to coordinate and facilitate the structure of project working groups, project plans, and identification of objective and key milestones and bring to successful completion
  • Manage virtual project team members and stakeholders as well as resolving conflicts
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders including other business lines and corporate functions and external stakeholders where required.
  • Perform an analysis of internal and external client requests in the project initiation phase.
  • Coordinate deep dives into business requirements to ensure that they are exhaustive and clear to all involved parties I would not add this as a separate point as this is BA activity and might be misleading more seen as an IT task. I would expect that as a skill that every project manager should be able to perform
  • Define and execute project governance
  • Develop an accurate timeline of project completion to ensure activities get completed within the assignment’s parameters and manage its execution
  • Manage project dependencies, risks & issues
  • Monitor and control project progress
  • Perform administrative tasks as required (e.g. budget, resource allocation, resource monitoring)
  • Support for project documentation tasks and project reporting

What we value

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage multiple simultaneous tasks and projects, in a high-pressure, dynamic and deadline-driven environment.
  • End to end project and portfolio management experience, preferably managing regulatory, client and corporate transformation projects.
  • Strong leadership skills, team player and able to work across geographies and cultures.
  • Experienced in interacting within all levels of the firm including senior stakeholders and Alpha Executive Board Members (EMB)  
  • Good understanding of financial regulations, compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Proficient in power point summarizing key messages to the point and for all management levels in the bank
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills. 
  • Attention to detail, following an agreed project management governance framework.
  • Experience in handling business deliverables (e.g. specifications of the requirement, Operating Models, risk and governance frameworks …)

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in technology, accounting, finance, business or equivalent
  • 14+ years of experience managing business projects in large, global financial service industry organizations or consulting firms
  • Fluency in English. French or German would be a plus
  • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • MS Visio, MS Project
