Assistant Engineer Highways

WSP India is currently seeking an Assistant Highway Engineer to join our Highways Department. This position will be responsible for the delivery of multidiscipline highway design projects (from rural highways to freeway type facilities).

• Prepare technical analysis and design; including cost estimating, quantity calculations, etc.


• Prepare and review drawings and presentation materials;


• Manage contract specifications and documentation;


• Liaison with all discipline team members, sub-consultants, clients and agencies;


• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's or post graduate degree in Civil Engineering with 2-4 years postgraduate experience with a consultancy or developer.
• Experience with all aspects of highway / freeway design (e.g. alignments, geometrics, staging, utilities, roadside safety, Contract specifications/ documents, Quantities, constructability);
• Strong abilities to work with various software packages (i.e. InRoads, Microstation, CAD, Microsoft Office);
• Experience with technical writing, minute preparation, etc.;
• Ability to handle multiple projects with the ability to effectively prioritize;
• Ability to estimate design level of effort, meet milestone schedule deliverables etc.;
• General understanding of traffic engineering principles;
• Solid understanding of QA / QC as well as Environmental Health and Safety practices / requirements;
• The successful candidate will be a dynamic, self-motivated individual who will take on a Leadership role in project work, focused on delivery to the client and technical excellence. The role requires management of a number of projects and becoming involved in design at an early stage. The ability to plan and design deliverables against Canada Engineering standards for each stage of a project is a pre-requisite and training and guidance will be provided where necessary.

Desirable Skills

• Professional licensing with Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is an asset;
• Solid understanding of other road design requirements (e.g. drainage / hydraulic design, environmental design / mitigation measure, engineering surveys, geotechnical investigations and design);
• Solid understanding of Ministry of Transportation, Ontario (MTO) standards and design practices are an asset;
• Familiarity with Ontario's regulatory environment and experience with approval processes is an asset.
