Assistant Manager - Material & Supplier Quality

Position Summary

The Assistant Manager - Quality (Material Inspection & Supplier Onboarding) is responsible for material inspection, supplier onboarding, supplier qualification, supplier quality improvement and quality compliance for Transmission Line and Substation projects. The role ensures that suppliers, materials, manufacturing processes and inspection activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, MQP/QAP/ITP, applicable IS/IEC/ASTM standards and organizational quality requirements. The position drives First Time Right (FTR), prevents recurring quality issues and ensures timely material clearance without compromising quality.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

   Material Inspection & Quality Control

   
   
   
   
   1. 
      

      Carry out inspection and testing of Transmission Line and Substation materials against approved drawings, specifications and applicable IS/IEC/ASTM standards.

      
      
   
   
   2. 
      

      Verify test certificates, material traceability and acceptance criteria before material clearance.

      
      
   
   
   3. 
      

      Drive First Time Right (FTR) and timely material clearance without compromising quality.

      
      
   
   
   
   


2. 
   

   Inspection Planning & Coordination

   
   
   
   
   1. 
      

      Prepare and implement inspection plans aligned with MQP/QAP/ITP and project delivery schedules.

      
      
   
   
   2. 
      

      Coordinate with suppliers, project and site teams, and third-party inspection agencies for timely inspections.

      
      
   
   
   
   


3. 
   

   Supplier Onboarding & Qualification

   
   
   
   
   1. 
      

      Conduct document review, capability assessment and manufacturing facility audits for new suppliers.

      
      
   
   
   2. 
      

      Qualify and onboard suppliers against defined quality criteria.

      
      
   
   
   
   


4. 
   

   Supplier Quality Improvement & Performance Monitoring

   
   
   
   
   1. 
      

      Monitor supplier quality performance and FTR, and drive improvement plans for recurring issues.

      
      
   
   
   2. 
      

      Review manufacturing processes and process controls at supplier facilities to prevent repeat defects.

      
      
   
   
   
   


5. 
   

   Quality Documentation, NCR/RCA/CAPA & Reporting

   
   
   
   
   1. 
      

      Raise and close NCRs with RCA and CAPA and manage deviation and change control.

      
      
   
   
   2. 
      

      Maintain inspection records and prepare periodic quality and supplier performance reports.

      
      
   
   
   
   

Critical Success Factors - Essential

• Strong knowledge of material inspection and testing for Transmission Line and Substation materials


• Ability to conduct supplier assessments, qualification and supplier quality improvement


• Understanding of manufacturing processes, process controls and quality requirements


• Working knowledge of MQP/QAP/ITP, NCR, RCA and CAPA


• Strong communication, stakeholder management and integrity in quality decisions

Critical Success Factors - Desirable

• Experience in Transmission Line / Substation / Power T&D projects


• Experience with EPC companies, utilities, OEMs or major power-sector manufacturers


• ISO 9001 Internal Auditor / Lead Auditor certification


• Knowledge or certification in NDT, welding, galvanizing or coating inspection


• Experience in supplier performance monitoring, FTR improvement and critical material inspection
