Job Description - Assistant Manager - Procurement

One of our client is looking for (MALE) Assistant Manager - Procurement with Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field ( MBA in Supply Chain Management is preferred) and 8 years of experience in procurement with specific expertise in Bearings, Gearboxes, Sensors, Motors, Hydraulics, and related components for heavy machinery.

Hands-on experience in procurement for Concrete Boom Pumps or similar heavy equipment is highly desirable

1. Job Purpose

Overview:

The Assistant Manager - Procurement will be responsible for sourcing and managing the procurement of bought-out and fabricated components, specifically focusing on Bearings, Gearboxes, Sensors, Motors, Hardware, and Hydraulic components required for the assembly and production of Concrete Boom Pumps. This role will require developing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality components. The individual will work closely with design, production, and quality teams to align procurement with project timelines and cost targets.

2. Key Responsibilities

Vendor Management & Sourcing:

  1. Identify and qualify reliable suppliers for specialized components, such as Bearings, Gearboxes, Sensors, Motors, Hydraulics, and Hardware. 
  2. Conduct comprehensive supplier evaluations, audits, and performance reviews to ensure adherence to quality and compliance standards.
  3. Develop long-term partnerships with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and consistent quality.

Procurement & Negotiation:

  1. Strategically procure materials and components to meet production schedules while optimizing costs and ensuring quality standards.
  2. Lead negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms, volume discounts, and annual rate contracts.
  3. Execute purchase orders, manage contracts, and oversee the entire procurement life cycle.

Technical Expertise & Component Knowledge:

  • Possess a strong understanding of specifications and quality standards for Bearings, Gearboxes, Sensors, Motors, Hydraulic systems, and Hardware components used in Concrete Boom Pumps. 
  • Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to ensure components meet technical specifications and operational requirements. 
  • Stay updated on the latest technologies, trends, and innovations in the heavy equipment and construction machinery sector.

Inventory & Cost Management:

  • Implement strategies for just-in-time procurement to reduce inventory costs while avoiding production delays. 
  • Analyse component price trends and market conditions to optimize procurement budgets. 
  • Coordinate with the finance team to manage procurement expenditures and align with budgetary guidelines.

Cross-functional Coordination:

  1. Work closely with the production team to understand component requirements and delivery timelines. 
  2. Partner with the Quality Assurance team to address component quality issues and implement corrective actions.  
  3. Collaborate with logistics for efficient transportation and timely receipt of components.

Compliance & Documentation:

Ensure adherence to company policies, industry standards, and legal compliance in procurement activities.

Maintain detailed records of Purchase Orders, supplier contracts, invoices, and procurement reports in the ERP system.

Leverage data analytics to improve procurement strategies and supplier
performance.

Core Competencies: 

  1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on cost  optimization and process improvement.
  2. Excellent negotiation and relationship-building
    abilities with internal and external stakeholders.

Technical Competencies:

  1. Knowledge of quality management systems, vendor audits, and compliance frameworks (ISO standards preferred).
  2. Proficiency in advance Excel and ERP systems.

5. Working Conditions

Work Environment:

Based in the Pune HO with travel to the factory at Goa .
