Job Description We are looking to recruit an Associate Director (AD), who will lead management and expansion of exciting work undertaken by Social and Economic Empowerment (SEE) Practice in India and in East Africa. The AD will primarily be responsible for Business Development which includes early gaining business insights, leading proposal writing, upon win setting up teams for implementation and then take on oversight function for successful delivery of the programme / project. The company has strong experience in delivering multiyear and high impact programmes. These programmes are supported by leading donors and foundations and are implemented in partnership with coveted research institutions, civil society organisations and public institutions. The AD will work with and mentor a team of high performing development professionals with expertise in the areas of governance, social and behavior change, gender and social inclusion, and programme management. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Business Development (65%):



  • Identifying new business opportunities within India and in East Africa outside, developing leads and contacting potential donors, devising business development strategies and implementing them.

  • Undertaking outreach activities, keeping up to date with trends within the sector, making sure targets are met periodically, and generating reports and presenting an analysis of business development progress.


Programme Management (20%):



  • Coordinate with project implementation teams to ensure quality and timeliness of deliverables.

  • Provide support or leadership as needed to identify and secure partners, consultants, and full-time staff.

  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with donor, funder, and/or client counterparts. Oversee routine project management activities including reviewing and submitting project reports to donors, developing budgets and workplans, and backstopping operations as needed.


Thought Leadership (15%):



  • Participate in appropriate professional organizations and networks and stay current on major themes in the profession.

  • Collaborate with Corporate Communications to identify strategic industry outlets and opportunities for presenting and sharing portfolio work and results.

  • Develop thought leadership content such as evidence papers, policy notes, expert blog posts, research publications and media articles.


Qualification, Skills & Experience


Educational:



  • Master’s degree in international development, gender studies, sociology, economics, or other relevant field is a must. About 12-15 years of relevant experience.


Professional Attributes:



  • Previous experience of leading proposal development for bilateral/multi-lateral organisations, foundations, philanthropies.

  • Prior exposure to Livelihood thematic area will be an advantage.

  • Strong abilities in structuring commercial proposals, hands-on experience is a must.

  • Able to work independently and in a team setting.

  • Excellent inter-personal skills, with a commitment to mentoring and team development.

  • Demonstrable team management experience, and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, both verbally and in writing.

  • Project management expertise, including the management of large project teams.

  • Proven experience of working with Governments and international aid agencies

  • Strong written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to consult, influence and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prior experience of developing and disseminating knowledge products and fostering strategic partnerships with academia, media, research and knowledge based organizations will be preferred.
