This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Associate Principal Engineer, IBM Sterling based in India.
In this role, you will take ownership of designing and delivering enterprise-grade integration and managed file transfer solutions within complex, mission-critical environments. You will serve as a senior technical expert across IBM Sterling Integrator and Sterling File Gateway platforms, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performance B2B and file transfer architectures. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including mainframe, infrastructure, and application stakeholders, to enable seamless data exchange across enterprise systems. You will play a key role in partner onboarding, integration design, and production support for high-volume transactional flows. The role demands deep expertise in middleware, messaging, and secure communication protocols, combined with strong problem-solving and leadership capabilities. You will also contribute to defining best practices, improving system reliability, and mentoring engineering teams in a fast-paced enterprise environment.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade B2B and file transfer solutions using IBM Sterling Integrator (SI) and Sterling File Gateway (SFG).
- Develop and support BPML-based business processes, workflows, and partner onboarding integrations.
- Architect and implement secure file transfer solutions using SFTP, FTPS, AS2, HTTPS, and related protocols.
- Manage and optimize IBM DB2 databases, ensuring performance tuning, query optimization, and efficient data handling.
- Collaborate with mainframe teams supporting z/OS and JCL-based enterprise integration environments.
- Implement and support messaging solutions using IBM MQ, JMS, and other enterprise middleware technologies.
- Design and expose integration services through REST and SOAP APIs where required.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex integration, file transfer, and system issues in production environments.
- Ensure compliance with security standards, encryption practices, and certificate management policies.
- Provide technical leadership, architectural guidance, and mentorship to engineering and support teams.
Requirements:
- 9+ years of experience in enterprise integration and IBM Sterling environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise in IBM Sterling Integrator (SI) and Sterling File Gateway (SFG) architecture, development, and administration.
- Deep experience with BPML, partner onboarding, and business process development (mandatory).
- Proven ability to design end-to-end B2B and file transfer integration solutions.
- Strong experience with IBM DB2 (z/OS or LUW), including performance tuning and query optimization (mandatory).
- Solid understanding of IBM mainframe technologies including z/OS and JCL (mandatory).
- Experience with secure protocols such as SFTP, FTPS, AS2, and HTTPS.
- Knowledge of data formats including XML, JSON, EDI (X12/EDIFACT), and integration frameworks.
- Strong understanding of IBM MQ, JMS, and enterprise messaging systems.
- Experience with API integrations using REST and SOAP services.
- Exposure to IBM ACE / Integration Bus and enterprise integration architectures.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation in integration environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
