Position Overview

The Boeing India Engineering and Technology Center (BIETC) is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Associate Structural Analysis Engineer to join our team in Chennai, India. This role involves conducting trade study, research, structural design and detailed analyses to support the design and development of complex Structural systems and components.


The Associate Structural Analysis Engineer performs structural analysis using well-defined analysis tools to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. The role participates in test activities to substantiate compliance for customers and regulatory agencies. This is an early-career role that works under close supervision while contributing to product development, verification, and certification activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform limited structural analyses (linear static, modal, basic fatigue) using established Analysis tools (hand-calculations methods) and using CAE/FEA tools to validate that components and assemblies meet requirements and specifications.
  • Support test planning, execution and data review for structural verification (component, sub-system, and system levels). Prepare test procedures and capture results to substantiate requirements for customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Execute design checks and tolerance stack‑up analyses to ensure proper fit, function and interface control.
  • Support Structural design updates and design-for-manufacture/assembly recommendations to improve reliability and producibility.
  • Assist in preparation and maintenance of technical documentation (design reports, test plans/procedures, qualification plans, drawings, and change requests).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (systems, electronics, manufacturing, suppliers) to implement hardware changes and resolve integration issues.
  • Participate in design reviews, IPT meetings, audits and customer meetings; represent Mechanical/Structural discipline as required.
  • Follow configuration management and change control processes; track deliverables and dependencies in assigned work breakdown structures (WBS).
  • Stay current on applicable regulations and specifications (e.g., CFR Regulations, DO‑160, MIL‑STD‑810) and company processes.
  • Under supervision, perform other engineering tasks as assigned to support product development and certification.

Technical competencies

  • Aircraft Structure: Basic knowledge of aircraft structural concepts, materials, strength properties, load paths, and common mitigation/treatment processes (e.g., NDT, corrosion control)
  • Familiarity with Hand calculations Analysis using :  Roark’s Formulas for Stress and Strain , Peterson’s Stress Concentration Factors , Bruhn’s methods for Analysis and Design of Flight Vehicle Structures
  • Analysis / Design Optimization: Ability to apply figures of merit and basic trade‑study approaches to evaluate design alternatives and integration options.
  • Analytical Skills (Technical): Collect, synthesize and analyze engineering data; draw practical conclusions and recommendations from results.
  • Computer Aided Design Tools: Familiarity with CAD and CAD/CAM tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, Creo) and ability to manipulate datasets and generate deliverable geometry/stl files.
  • Design Concepts & Techniques: Knowledge of concurrent engineering, DFM/A and basic GD&T (ASME Y14.5) practices.
  • Engineering Technical Info: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, handbooks, and industry standards/specifications.
  • Mathematical Reasoning: Apply arithmetic and algebraic methods to perform design calculations and model results.
  • Systems Thinking: Understand interdependencies across components, subsystems and disciplines; evaluate impacts of design changes across the system.

Tools & Methods

  • Hand calculations Analysis
  • FEA / CAE tools: Nastran, Ansys (Workbench), Patran, or equivalent.
  • CAD tools: CATIA, NX, Creo or similar.
  • Test & data tools: Familiarity with test instrumentation, data acquisition, and basic signal/data review practices.
  • Regulations & Standards: Awareness of FAA CFR requirements ,  ASME Y14.5, relevant material and manufacturing specifications.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Coursework in structural analysis using Hand-Calculations, FEA, materials, and test verification.
  • Exposure to aerospace material selection, manufacturing processes and finish considerations preferred.
  • Prior exposure to design integration, fit checks and test support at module/subsystem levels is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor), or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Works under close supervision with guidance from senior engineers; expected to learn company processes and engineering practices.
  • Collaborates with domestic and global teams; may participate in customer or supplier interactions under supervision.
  • Responsible for delivering quality work products, supporting test/qualification activities, and following configuration/change control processes.

Typical Education & Experience:

Bachelor degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
