Cloud Ops Engineer

The Team: 

The Mobility Division within S&P Global uses technology and data science to deliver insights, forecasts, and advisory services across the automotive value chain. The Cloud Operations team enables these products by running a reliable, well-governed cloud foundation—working in a collaborative culture focused on shared learning, operational rigor, and continuous improvement across a multi-account environment. 

The Impact:

This role is the operations owner for cloud governance and compliance at scale. You’ll keep cloud environments “day-1/day-2 ready” through strong account lifecycle management, guardrails, patch/vulnerability workflows, and audit-ready evidence. You’ll partner with Security/Risk (as stakeholders) and with Platform/App teams (as executors/owners) to ensure standards are implemented without slowing delivery. 

Responsibilities:

• Own and improve core cloud operations capabilities: account vending, guardrails, compliance evidence, and vulnerability/patch hygiene 

• Work cross-functionally with Platform Engineering, application teams, IAM, Risk/GRC, and Audit in a global environment 

• Drive automation (policy-as-code / IaC / scripting) to reduce toil and improve consistency 

• Gain exposure to multi-cloud operations (AWS/Azure/GCP) where applicable, while building durable governance patterns 

Required Skills:

• 3-6 years in cloud operations / platform engineering / cloud governance (operations-first, not a security analyst role) 

• Hands-on experience running multi-account / multi-subscription environments: provisioning, inventory/metadata, tagging standards, baseline logging/monitoring, and decommissioning 

• Strong cloud governance + guardrails experience (OU/org structures, inherited controls, policy change management, exception handling) 

• Operational experience with policy-as-code (e.g., Cloud Custodian): deploying policies, tuning, handling exceptions/rollbacks, producing metrics/evidence 

• Practical vulnerability + patch operations: using tools like Tenable, triaging findings, routing to owners, tracking SLAs, reporting aging, maintaining coverage/data quality 

• Automation skills (Python/Bash/PowerShell) and familiarity with IaC concepts (Terraform/CloudFormation-style) 

• Strong operational discipline: runbooks, change management, incident support, stakeholder communication, audit evidence handling 

Nice to have 

• Multi-cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP) and comfort standardizing controls across platforms 
• IAM governance exposure (RBAC/least privilege patterns, access reviews, break-glass processes) 
• Experience integrating compliance/guardrails into CI/CD and platform “paved roads” 
• Backup/DR operational experience (restore testing, RTO/RPO alignment, documentation) 
• Cloud certifications (ops/architecture certifications are a plus)
