Job Description - Commis Catering - Domestic & International


At Hunger Inc., we’re looking for a Commis Chef in Catering who’s eager to join one of Mumbai’s most exciting culinary teams. As a key player in our catering services, you’ll be responsible for delivering exceptional food for private events, large gatherings, and corporate functions. Your role will involve assisting in food prep, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, and helping to maintain a smooth operation in a high-energy environment, all while contributing to the seamless execution of our catering events. Additionally, you’ll support our vibrant restaurants—The Bombay Canteen, O Pedro, and Veronica’s—with daily kitchen tasks as needed. You’re someone who gets excited about food—whether you’re prepping ingredients, learning new cooking techniques, or making sure everything in the kitchen is just right. With up to 5 years of experience in a commercial kitchen, you’re ready to develop your skills and take on new challenges. You’re organized, have a strong eye for detail, and thrive under pressure. You love working in a team and understand that the key to great food is collaboration. You’re committed to maintaining cleanliness and food safety, and you can’t wait to learn from senior chefs in a busy, creative kitchen environment.

YOUR TEAM

As a Commis Chef, you’ll be working closely with a talented team of chefs, line cooks, and kitchen staff. From The Bombay Canteen to O Pedro and Veronica’s, every kitchen is full of passionate, driven professionals who care deeply about the food they create. You’ll be an integral part of the team, contributing to the smooth running of the kitchen and helping to deliver exceptional dishes day in and day out. Whether you’re assisting with prep or learning new techniques, you’ll be constantly evolving in your role.

WHO YOU WILL REPORT TO

You’ll report directly to the Head Chef or Sous Chef, who will guide you through your daily tasks, provide mentorship, and help you refine your culinary skills. You’ll be learning from some of the best chefs in the industry, with opportunities to grow and develop within the company.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
  • Food Preparation: Assist in prepping ingredients, preparing dishes, and ensuring everything is ready for service.
  • Station Setup: Organize your work station with all the necessary ingredients and equipment to ensure smooth service.
  • Sanitation & Hygiene: Keep your station clean and organized, adhering to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Food Storage: Properly store ingredients and follow FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures to reduce waste and control food costs.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with senior chefs, line cooks, and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Learning & Development: Continuously improve your skills, from knife skills to new cooking techniques.
  • Restocking: Make sure ingredients and supplies are replenished as needed throughout the service.
  • Flexibility: Help out in other areas of the kitchen when needed, adapting to the needs of the team.
  • Staff Meals: Contribute to preparing staff meals to ensure the team is fueled and ready for service.
  • When not working at a catering event, you'll be reporting to one of our restaurants.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Experience: 0-5 years of kitchen experience (previous experience in a commercial kitchen is a plus).
  • Education: A high school diploma or Diploma in Culinary Arts is required.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills to work efficiently with your team.
  • Team Player: A collaborative attitude with a willingness to learn and support your team.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for food quality, presentation, and cleanliness.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment, remaining calm under pressure.
  • Valid Passport is mandatory.
