Consultant General Ophthalmologist

Qualification

• MBBS

• MS / DNB / DO Ophthalmology

• Valid NMC / State Medical Council Registration

Preferred:

• Fellowship in Cataract Surgery / Comprehensive Ophthalmology

• Experience in Phacoemulsification Surgery

Experience

• 3–7 Years – Consultant

• 7+ Years – Senior Consultant

• Experience in a high-volume Eye Hospital preferred

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and OPD consultations

• Diagnose and manage cataract, glaucoma, refractive errors, dry eye disease, ocular infections, diabetic eye disease, and other common eye disorders

• Perform Phacoemulsification (Phaco), SICS, Pterygium Excision, Chalazion Surgery, YAG Laser Capsulotomy, and other minor ophthalmic procedures as per credentialing

• Provide emergency eye care, including ocular trauma, acute glaucoma, chemical injuries, foreign body removal, and sudden vision loss

• Interpret diagnostic investigations including OCT, Fundus Photography, Visual Field Analysis, B-Scan, Corneal Topography, Pachymetry, and Biometry

• Counsel patients regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgery, medications, and post-operative care

• Refer complex cases to Retina, Cornea, Glaucoma, Oculoplasty, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Neuro-Ophthalmology, and Uveitis specialists when required

• Maintain accurate EMR documentation and ensure NABH-compliant clinical practices

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and community outreach programs

Skills Required

• Strong clinical and surgical expertise in Comprehensive Ophthalmology

• Experience in Phaco Cataract Surgery and SICS

• Excellent diagnostic, communication, and patient counselling skills

• Ethical, patient-centric, and team-oriented approach

• Knowledge of NABH standards and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
