Job Description | The Team The role sits within the Cloud Engineering / Custom Apps team in Group Digital and is responsible for the leadership, delivery, and ongoing operation of internally developed applications supporting platform engineering and business services.
The application portfolio includes operational tooling, reporting platforms, workflow automation solutions, integration services, and enterprise applications that enable critical technology and business processes across the Firm. The team operates within a multi-supplier delivery model and collaborates closely with platform engineering teams, architects, service owners, security teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure applications remain secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with strategic objectives. The .NET Application Development Lead is responsible for the technical leadership, delivery management, and operational governance of internally developed applications supporting Cloud Engineering and business services. The role provides leadership across the full application lifecycle, including solution design, development, deployment, operational support, supplier management, and continuous improvement. The individual will lead internal and external development resources, establish engineering standards and practices, and ensure delivery of secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions that meet business and operational requirements. |
Key Responsibilities | Lead the design, development, enhancement, and operation of internally developed applications and services Provide technical leadership across application architecture, development standards, engineering practices, and solution delivery Own application roadmaps and work with stakeholders to prioritise enhancements, technical debt remediation, and strategic initiatives Lead internal and supplier development teams, ensuring delivery quality, productivity, and adherence to engineering standards Establish and maintain application governance, development lifecycle processes, and quality controls Oversee solution architecture and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and cloud engineering standards Drive adoption of DevOps practices, CI/CD automation, testing frameworks, and engineering best practices Ensure applications are designed for scalability, resilience, maintainability, and operational supportability Manage integration strategies between custom applications, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems Oversee operational support activities, including incident management, problem management, root cause analysis, and service improvement initiatives Partner with security, risk, and compliance teams to ensure applications meet regulatory and security requirements Manage relationships with suppliers and delivery partners, including performance management and service review activities Support budget planning, resource forecasting, and delivery prioritisation for the application portfolio Maintain ownership of application lifecycle management, including upgrades, technology refresh activities, and platform modernisation initiatives Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development support to development team members Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives across Cloud Engineering and Group Digital

The Person
| Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline 8–12+ years of experience in software engineering, application development, or application management roles Demonstrated experience leading application development teams delivering enterprise applications and business-critical services Experience managing application portfolios across development, support, enhancement, and lifecycle management activities Strong experience developing enterprise applications using C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, and related Microsoft technologies Experience defining application architectures, technical standards, and software engineering practices Experience designing and implementing scalable APIs, integration services, and distributed application architectures Strong knowledge of SQL Server, relational databases, and enterprise data integration patterns Experience implementing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management processes Experience supporting applications in production environments with accountability for service stability and operational performance Experience working within cloud-based environments, preferably Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform Experience managing third-party suppliers and outsourced development partners Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving delivery across complex organisational environments Strong analytical, problem-solving, governance, and decision-making capabilities
