Education Specialist

The Lead Pedagogy Specialist will serve as the primary academic and pedagogical expert within Wadhwani AI's education team. The role will be responsible for ensuring that all education solutions are grounded in sound pedagogical principles, aligned with curriculum standards and learning outcomes, and designed to improve learner outcomes at scale.

The individual will work closely with Product, Machine Learning, Engineering, Design, Programs, and Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) teams to define the educational vision, pedagogical requirements, assessment frameworks, diagnostic approaches, learning pathways, and intervention strategies that underpin Wadhwani AI's education solutions.

The role will provide academic leadership across solution development while ensuring that product and technology decisions remain aligned with evidence-based educational practices, learning science, and classroom realities. The individual will also manage pedagogy associates, curriculum specialists, subject matter experts, and external consultants as required.

1. Pedagogical Leadership and Solution Design

• Serve as the lead academic and pedagogical expert across Wadhwani AI's education solutions.
  

• Define the pedagogical vision, learning frameworks, and educational principles guiding solution development.
  

• Ensure all solutions are aligned with curriculum expectations, learning outcomes, competency frameworks, and national education priorities such as NEP 2020 and NIPUN Bharat.
  

• Provide academic direction to Product, ML, Engineering, Design, and Program teams during solution development.
  

• Review and validate pedagogical approaches, frameworks, assessments, diagnostics, and learning models used across products.
  

• Ensure educational rigor and learning science principles are embedded throughout the solution lifecycle.
  
  

2. Assessment, Diagnostics, Learning Measurement and Intervention Design

• Design and oversee assessment, diagnostic, and learning measurement frameworks across education solutions.
  

• Define learning indicators, proficiency levels, learner progression frameworks, benchmarks, and reporting methodologies.
  

• Develop diagnostic frameworks that identify learner strengths and learning gaps.
  

• Support the development and refinement of learner segmentation, cohortization, and intervention approaches based on assessment findings.
  

• Define evidence-based learning interventions, remediation frameworks, and learner support strategies.
  

• Ensure assessment and intervention models are practical, scalable, and aligned with classroom realities.
  

• Continuously refine frameworks based on implementation findings, user feedback, and emerging research.
  
  

3. Product Development and Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Translate pedagogical requirements into clear product requirements and functional specifications.
  

• Work closely with Product, ML, Engineering, and Design teams to shape solution architecture and user experience.
  

• Apply learning science and pedagogical principles to inform product design decisions, learner journeys, AI-enabled feedback systems, and user workflows.
  

• Review product features and recommend improvements from a pedagogical perspective.
  

• Support the development of AI-enabled solutions across foundational literacy, foundational numeracy, school education, higher education, skilling, and other emerging education domains.
  

• Ensure educational objectives remain central to product development decisions.
  
  

4. Academic Content and Quality Assurance

• Review and validate assessment content, remediation content, instructional resources, and learning materials.
  

• Establish quality standards for academic content and pedagogical outputs.
  

• Ensure consistency, accuracy, curriculum alignment, and pedagogical appropriateness across all educational materials.
  

• Oversee academic review and quality assurance processes for content and solution frameworks.
  
  

5. Team Leadership and Expert Management

• Manage and mentor pedagogy associates, curriculum specialists, and subject matter experts.
  

• Coordinate with external consultants, researchers, and academic experts when specialized expertise is required.
  

• Build pedagogical capacity within the organization.
  

• Establish review processes, quality standards, and knowledge-sharing mechanisms for pedagogy-related work.
  
  

6. Government and Academic Engagement

• Represent Wadhwani AI on academic and pedagogical matters with SCERTs, NCERT, State Education Departments, academic institutions, NGOs, and implementation partners.
  

• Participate in curriculum consultations, technical working groups, academic reviews, and framework validation exercises.
  

• Support state contextualization and validation of assessments, diagnostics, and learning frameworks.
  

• Build credibility and trust with academic stakeholders and education experts.
  
  

7. Research, Thought Leadership and Knowledge Development

• Stay informed on developments in learning science, pedagogy, assessment, literacy, numeracy, AI in education, and education technology.
  

• Contribute to academic papers, reports, concept notes, policy briefs, and thought leadership content.
  

• Synthesize research findings and implementation learnings into actionable recommendations for product and program teams.
  

• Support proposal development by providing pedagogical and educational inputs.
  

• Document and disseminate best practices emerging from deployments and solution development.
  
  

8. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

• Work closely with MEL teams to define educational indicators and learning outcome measures.
  

• Support analysis and interpretation of learner data and implementation findings.
  

• Recommend solution improvements based on evidence from deployments, evaluations, and research.
  

• Ensure educational objectives are reflected in monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
  

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

• Master's degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Curriculum Development, Learning Sciences, Assessment, Literacy, Numeracy, Instructional Design, or a related field.
  

• Additional training or certifications in foundational literacy, foundational numeracy, assessment design, curriculum development, learning sciences, or instructional design will be an advantage.
  

Experience

• 6–10 years of relevant experience in education, pedagogy, curriculum development, assessment design, learning sciences, education technology, or related fields.
  

• Experience designing assessments, learning frameworks, competency progressions, instructional models, diagnostic approaches, or educational interventions.
  

• Experience working with government education systems, academic institutions, NGOs, development organizations, or education-focused organizations.
  

• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including Product, Technology, Research, MEL, and Program teams.
  

• Experience managing or mentoring pedagogy associates, curriculum specialists, or subject matter experts is desirable.
  

Domain Expertise

• Strong understanding of learning sciences and pedagogical principles.
  

• Deep understanding of literacy development, learner progression, curriculum frameworks, and assessment design.
  

• Expertise in learning measurement, diagnostics, competency frameworks, and educational interventions.
  

• Familiarity with foundational literacy, foundational numeracy, school education, or related learning domains.
  

• Understanding of NEP 2020, NIPUN Bharat, FLN initiatives, and government education ecosystems.
  

• Familiarity with AI-enabled education solutions, EdTech products, and technology-supported learning models is desirable.
