As an FPGA Engineering Manager, you will drive end-to-end FPGA development across complex aerospace and defense platforms, including avionics, radar systems, electronic warfare, secure communications, and embedded mission systems. You will oversee architecture definition, design reviews, verification strategies, compliance requirements, and lifecycle management while ensuring adherence to stringent defense and aerospace standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
Define FPGA architecture and system-level design strategies for high-performance, safety-critical applications.
Lead design and development using advanced FPGA platforms such as Xilinx (AMD) and Intel (Altera) devices.
Guide RTL development using VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog and ensure robust design practices.
Drive timing closure, power optimization, high-speed interface design (PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, JESD204), and signal integrity validation.
Oversee FPGA integration within complex SoC and embedded architectures.
Defense & Aerospace Compliance
Ensure compliance with aerospace and defense standards including RTCA DO-254 and ISO 9001/AS9100 quality systems.
Support environmental and reliability requirements aligned with military standards such as MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
Lead documentation, traceability, configuration management, and audit readiness activities.
Collaborate with certification authorities and internal quality teams for qualification processes.
Team & Program Management
Lead and mentor FPGA design teams (10–30 engineers), including hardware, verification, and embedded software engineers.
Drive project planning, resource allocation, risk mitigation, and milestone delivery.
Conduct design reviews, performance assessments, and technical decision-making.
Collaborate cross-functionally with systems engineering, mechanical, PCB design, firmware, and program management teams.
Verification & Validation
Establish comprehensive FPGA verification strategies including simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and lab validation.
Implement formal verification methodologies and regression automation.
Ensure robust fault-tolerant and redundancy architectures for mission-critical systems.
Required Qualifications
15–25 years of experience in FPGA design and development, with at least 7+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
Extensive hands-on experience in defense and aerospace FPGA programs.
Strong knowledge of high-reliability design practices, radiation-tolerant designs, and secure hardware architectures.
Proven experience in DO-254 certification programs and aerospace lifecycle management.
Expertise in FPGA toolchains (Vivado, Quartus, ModelSim, etc.).
Deep understanding of high-speed digital design and embedded hardware systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with radar processing, signal processing pipelines, encryption modules, or avionics systems.
Familiarity with secure boot, anti-tamper, and cryptographic hardware modules.
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
