The Mission

Design and ship production microservices that handle measurable traffic while establishing engineering standards that enable faster, more reliable shipping.

What You'll Do

• Write clean, maintainable code in Node.js/TypeScript and Python daily across services.

• Design and implement microservices and REST APIs meeting uptime and latency targets.

• Debug Node.js/TypeScript performance issues in production using flame graphs, profiling tools, and instrumentation.

• Optimize PostgreSQL queries and schema design, owning measurable improvements in latency and resource utilization.

• Build frontend components and handle UX considerations for end-to-end features.

• Architect Python automation layers at service boundaries, preventing inefficiencies through code review and architectural depth.

• Establish code review standards, tooling choices, and deployment practices that increase team velocity and reduce incidents.

• Mentor engineers on debugging production issues, database optimization, and end-to-end feature shipping.

• Own features from design through production deployment, with telemetry to measure impact.

What We're Looking For

Must-haves

• Shipped multiple production systems in Node.js or Python with documented performance issues you diagnosed and fixed.

• Strong SQL skills: optimize N+1 queries, design normalized schemas, justify denormalization tradeoffs.

• Designed and debugged microservices with REST APIs, familiar with eventual consistency and cross-service failures.

• Owned features end-to-end from conception through production monitoring and deployment.

• Proficient with Prisma or similar ORMs and PostgreSQL, can write raw SQL when needed.

• Hands-on experience with Redis for caching and pub-sub or similar caching layers.

• Shipped code in fast-moving environments and debugged production issues under pressure.

• Built end-to-end projects including frontend and design decisions, not just backend systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Docker and Kubernetes basics; can containerize applications and understand deployment trade-offs.

• AWS, GCP, or Azure exposure with managed services like RDS and CloudWatch.

• Message queues or event streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ); understand pub-sub versus request-response patterns.
