Reporting To: Head Process Technology


Position Purpose

Group Leader Process R&D is responsible for managing the overall development of Chemical project assigned in compliance with all economics, safety and environmental rules. This includes thorough literature survey, planning of RM, man power, resources and bench scale development. This would also include demo of developed chemical process to Scale-up & Basic Engineering team, support to Detailed Engineering team, KL, pilot plant and commercial plant teams for successful technology transfer.

Strategic Responsibilities


  • Ensure effective Literature Search aligned to customer requirements

  • Drive route selection and technical feasibility analyses as per leading practices

  • Drive alternate route selection to ensure maximum yield, minimum cost & waste

  • Drive knowledge and IP management including managing patent issues as per the established policies of the organization

  • Attend seminars and lectures as appropriate

  • Maintain awareness of industry and technology trends to ensure that PI is current in development efforts to supply new and innovative offerings

  • Making significant contribution by way of developing given chemistries and new patents

  • Set benchmarks for quick TAT and innovation

Operational Responsibilities


  • Drive process development & optimization to offer an enhanced value proposition in terms of more yield, less waste, less cost, higher quality to customers

  • Support & assist in driving custom innovation to the synthesis route received from the customer

  • Support the development of guidelines for lab synthesis and bench scale studies for scale up

  • Drive effective program management and support implementation of new systems & processes to enhance equipment & resource efficiency

  • Support Technology Transfer team during scale-up & commercialization

  • Ensure desired quality and productivity of new molecules as per business plan.

  • Drive day-to-day operational activities including but not limited to the following:

    • Bench scale experiments as per planning.

    • Identification of critical parameters

    • Co-ordination with QC for analytical support / development

    • Prepare sample as per required quality

    • Optimization of process w.r.t. identified critical parameters

    • Impurities characterization and synthesis

    • Understanding the parameters responsible for impurities

    • To guide subordinate for Execution of experiments

    • Process validation by reproducing min. three consecutive batches.

    • Prepare process write –up/ TOP / SOP

    • Data entry in SAP

    • Experimental observations and data compilation

    • Maintain ISO documentation

    • Preparation of daily report / BFD of process / Man-hours utilization

    • Demo batches to PD

    • To check quality plan/ Plant SOP

    • Use test of RM’s

    • Data compilation and time to time update of KL/ PP plant trials

Education Qualification

Doctorate/Ph.d in Chemistry/Organic Chemistry from a reputed University

Work Experience

15-20 years of business R&D experience

Industry to be Hired from

Agro-API-Fine-Chemicals
