Job Description
The Head of Design & Engineering will provide end-to-end technical leadership for the design and engineering function across the company's PSP portfolio. This role drives engineering strategy, ensures design finalization across all disciplines, and aligns technical outputs with constructability, lifecycle cost optimization, and fast-track project execution requirements.
Key Sector Exposure – Hydro & Pumped Storage
- End-to-end execution and management of large-scale hydroelectric projects (>200 MW) or Pumped Storage Projects (>500 MW).
- Complete design management encompassing civil, hydro-mechanical, and electro-mechanical integration.
- Optimization of project layouts, powerhouse sizing, deep-seated design, and waterway configurations.
- Driving engineering strategy from conceptualization to design finalization.
- Alignment between technical design outputs and constructability requirements.
- Lifecycle cost optimization and value engineering across multi-discipline project teams.
- Managing owner-side engineering interfaces with EPC contractors, consultants, and statutory bodies.
- Coordination across civil, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical design disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive design finalization for civil structures, hydraulic systems, and electro-mechanical integration across all PSP projects.
- Oversee optimization of project layouts, powerhouse sizing, deep-seated design, and waterway configurations.
- Ensure consistency and quality of technical standards across all projects in the portfolio.
- Review and validate designs for constructability, ensuring practical and efficient on-site execution.
- Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize capital expenditure and lifecycle costs.
- Ensure design outputs support efficient procurement, tendering, and construction sequencing.
- Challenge consultant and contractor assumptions to protect project cost and schedule positions.
- Manage design interfaces between civil, hydro-mechanical, and electro-mechanical disciplines.
- Ensure resolution of interface clashes prior to tender award and construction.
- Maintain and review the Interface Register to ensure all cross-discipline coordination is tracked and closed.
- Coordinate with project teams on DPR development, BOQ preparation, and technical specifications.
- Lead and conduct comprehensive design reviews, maintaining rigorous quality oversight at all project stages.
- Drive team development, performance management, and capability building within the engineering function.
- Interface with statutory bodies (CEA, CWC, CSMRS) on technical approvals and DPR submissions.
Stakeholder & Consultant Management
- Lead engagement with design consultants, review consultants, and technical advisory bodies.
- Evaluate and approve contractor and consultant technical submittals from an execution risk perspective.
- Support interaction with regulatory bodies and state authorities on technical approvals.
- Provide technical inputs for DPR development, project bankability, and investment readiness presentations.
- Represent the company's engineering function in external project reviews and stakeholder forums.
