Lead Backend Engineer

We are seeking a seasoned Lead Backend Engineer to drive the backend architecture and development for a high-performance crypto exchange platform. This role involves leading backend systems that power wallet services, trade execution, order matching, and real-time transactions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build scalable, secure, and reliable services that meet both technical and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend development efforts across key platform components such as wallets, matching engine, order management, and transaction processing
• Architect high-availability, low-latency backend systems using microservices or service-oriented architecture
• Ensure engineering best practices in code quality, system scalability, observability, performance optimization, and security
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend developers, and QA teams to define, build, and deliver RESTful and WebSocket APIs
• Own the entire service lifecycle, from design to deployment, monitoring, and incident resolution
• Design data models for core exchange elements such as balances, order books, and transactions with an emphasis on performance and accuracy
• Implement secure practices for authentication, authorization, and key management, especially in wallet infrastructure
• Mentor junior developers, conduct technical reviews, and contribute to hiring efforts

Core Requirements

• 6+ years of backend development experience, including 2+ years in a senior or technical leadership capacity
• Expertise in one or more of: Node.js, Golang, Rust, or equivalent modern backend languages
• Deep experience in building real-time transactional systems like trading engines, order books, or payment processors
• Proficient with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka/RabbitMQ, and designing event-driven systems
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and WebSocket communication
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with blockchain concepts including wallet architecture, smart contracts, and token handling
• Hands-on experience with secure key management and integration with custody services (e.g., Fireblocks, BitGo)
• Skilled in working with CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms like AWS or GCP

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in financial systems, high-frequency trading, or exchange platforms
• Knowledge of cryptographic principles, cold/hot wallet design, and transaction signing
• Awareness of regulatory and security frameworks (KYC, AML, access control, audit logging)
• Experience with DevOps practices, Terraform, Helm, or infrastructure-as-code tooling
• Exposure to third-party integrations such as blockchain explorers, identity management tools, or liquidity providers
