Job Description - Lead Engineer - Renewable Integration

Eaton’s Research Labs (ERL) is a global research team and has an exciting and rewarding position for a Power System Engineer seeking a challenging career in Power System and Energy industry. This position enables the person hired to develop new technologies, improve existing products, acquire internal and external funding, lead discussions with customer technology leaders, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and ERL leadership. A good blend of technical knowledge and business acumen is desired to be successful in this role. The selected candidate will be working with engineering teams located at EIIC Pune and collaborate with different teams and businesses at various locations.


We are looking for a Lead Power Systems Engineer to enhance our team in the research area of Distributed energy resources management system (DERMS) and Grid Intelligence focusing on power grid components and systems with high penetration of Distributed Energy Resources.

In this role you will:

Lead technology development projects and guide teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (External labs/University researchers).
Create innovative power distribution and energy management solutions and prototypes based on advanced technologies.
Identify and develop commercialization solutions with substantial growth potential for Eaton’s power distribution businesses, and provide advisory services to business partners
Actively participate in strategic planning and development of Eaton product/service offerings and support New Product/Technology Introductions concurrent with Eaton business needs.
Provide mentoring and help develop/train less experienced staff in a working environment.
Participate in brainstorming and design bursts contributing to the technology strategy.
 

Qualifications:


Master’s Degree Or Ph.D. in Electrical/Electronics/Systems/Controls Engineering / or equivalent technical field from accredited institutions.
Master’s Degree (7-10 years) or Ph.D. (4 -7 years)  experience in power systems technologies focused on distributed energy resource management, micro grids, smart-grids, grids of future, power converters, connected systems. 

Skills:


Hands-on deployment experience in electrical power systems, distributed energy resources, integration of renewables, protection in traditional grids, smart grids and grids with renewables, power electronic converters, connected systems and asset health monitoring. 
Familiarity with grid codes and working experience in developing algorithms, performing engineering analytics, system modeling and hardware-in-loop studies for power system planning controls and protection for both in front of meter and behind the meter applications is a must. 
Hands-on experience with engineering tools like MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, PSPICE, PSCAD, RTDS, TYPHOON HIL, OPALRT and experience in building experimental setups and conducting disciplined experiments. 
Experience in DER degradation modelling and predictive controls is desirable.
Experience in a variety of power system protection, monitoring, and control (FLISR, AMI, integrated Volt/VAR control, adaptive protection, grid impact studies etc.) is desirable.
Possess strong business acumen and the ability to understand and formulate compelling value propositions and to understand and drive through value and adoption chain. 
Understanding of mechanical systems and electromechanical actuators will be desirable.
Knowledge of state-of-the-art diagnostics and lifetime prognostics methods, and experience with data acquisition and electronics is desirable.
Experience in developing preventive/predictive health monitoring solutions for power system devices (Relays, CB’s, network protectors and transformers) is desirable.
Proven track record for IP generation and publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals is desired.
