Job Description - Lead Structural Engineer

Job Description

1) Qualifications

  • Typically 10+ years of experience and a qualified Engineer.

2) Business Development

  • Begin building a network of contacts.
  • Act as ambassadors for the company.

3) Project Role

  • Maintain management and financial awareness.
  • Represent the practice at the project level.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for projects.
  • Manage the design and construction stages of projects.
  • Supervise a small team of engineers and technicians.
  • Typically assume the role of Project Engineer on projects of various sizes, with the potential to act as a Design Engineer on larger, more complex projects.
  • Responsible for delivering work within the agreed fee with the Project Manager.
  • Core responsibilities include:
    • Delivering tasks on time and within the agreed fee.
    • Ensuring task profitability and quality.
    • Preparing client/project proposals.
    • Presenting to clients.
    • Negotiating fee proposals and requesting additional fees when possible.
    • Building project teams using internal and external resources.
    • Procuring project resources and planning projects.
    • Achieving 95% chargeable time.

4) Company Role

  • Understand the company’s business plan, mission statement, and key challenges.
  • Contribute to the development of company procedures by actively participating in task groups.
  • Attend team meetings and actively engage in the development of team procedures.
  • Review and provide feedback on company procedures through the feedback system.
  • Apply policies relating to health & safety, quality, and training.

5) Engineering Function

  • Agree on design philosophy and fundamentals.
  • Review and comment on deliverables from Engineers & Technicians at key stages of a project.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive technical competence.
  • Possess knowledge of concept design, buildability, detailed design, construction techniques, procurement routes, risk assessments, and claim assessments.
  • Have knowledge of analytical concepts.
  • Responsible for Quality Management (QA) within the team.
  • Be familiar with CAD standards and 3D working.

6) HSEQ Responsibilities

  • Understand, implement, and follow WME HSEQ policies.
  • Implement and coordinate HSEQ procedures in the workplace.
  • Report any HSEQ incidents immediately to the WME HSEQ Department and legal authorities, if necessary.
  • Comply with Client/Contractor HSEQ requirements and complete site inductions before mobilizing to sites.
