Job Description - Maintenance Manager

Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling all maintenance activities to ensure maximum equipment uptime, safety, reliability, and cost efficiency. The role involves preventive and breakdown maintenance, asset management, infrastructure upkeep, team leadership, vendor coordination, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Maintenance Planning & Execution

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) and ensure strict adherence.
  • Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance history and asset records to support predictive maintenance strategies.

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Oversee maintenance of PLC-controlled machines, field instruments, assembly equipment, testing machines, and EOT cranes.
  • Manage maintenance of air compressors, HVAC systems, electrical installations, utilities, and plant infrastructure.
  • Lead installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and machinery.

Spares & Inventory Management

  • Identify critical machines and critical spares to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Plan spares procurement, track inventory levels, and follow up with procurement and vendors.
  • Optimize spares inventory to balance availability and cost control.

Safety, Compliance & EHS Coordination

  • Coordinate with the EHS team to ensure safety interlocks, system improvements, and compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Ensure proper implementation of Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) procedures and authorizations.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical, safety, and statutory norms; Electrical ‘C’ License is an added advantage.

Calibration & Quality Support

  • Ensure timely calibration of process-related instruments and equipment as per quality standards.
  • Maintain calibration records and support internal and external audits.

Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Develop and manage vendors and service providers for maintenance activities.
  • Evaluate vendor performance, negotiate service terms, and ensure timely service delivery.

Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Prepare and manage CAPEX and OPEX budgets related to maintenance and utilities.
  • Monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure budget adherence.

Energy & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive power-saving and energy-efficiency initiatives across the plant.
  • Implement continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Documentation & Coordination

  • Ensure timely PR and PO follow-up for maintenance supplies and services.

Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop maintenance engineers, technicians, and contractors.
  • Allocate work, set priorities, and ensure skill development through training.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Engineering.

Experience

  • 8–15 years of experience in plant or manufacturing maintenance, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial role.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Experience with PLC-based systems, utilities, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance, safety systems, and energy management.

Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Cost-conscious and data-driven decision maker.
  • Prepare maintenance reports, KPIs, and dashboards for management review.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Procurement, and Projects teams to support business objectives.
