Manager - O&M Head

We are seeking a highly experienced O&M Head to lead operations and maintenance of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) in the energy utility sector. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience with Smart Metering systems, including Head-End Systems (HES), Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS), field operations, vendor coordination, and regulatory compliance. This role is crucial for ensuring end-to-end operational reliability, uptime, and data accuracy across the smart metering network.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead O&M of smart metering systems across the utility network, ensuring optimal performance and SLA adherence.
  
• Oversee the functioning and integration of HES and MDMS platforms, ensuring data integrity, performance, and compliance
  
• Monitor and troubleshoot system issues, data gaps, and communication failures between meters, HES, and MDMS.
  
• Manage installation, commissioning, health checks, and maintenance of smart meters and communication devices (modems, gateways).
  
• Supervise field teams (internal and vendor) for timely resolution of meter failures, replacements, or service disruptions.
  
• Track asset performance and reliability through analytics and preventive maintenance planning.
  
• Lead O&M teams including engineers, technicians, and service partners/vendors
  
• Coordinate with smart meter OEMs, IT solution providers (for HES/MDMS), and system integrators
  
• Ensure strict adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards in all operations.
  
• Define and monitor KPIs related to uptime, meter health, communication success rate, and data availability.
  
• Generate regular operational reports for internal stakeholders and regulators (DISCOMs, ERCs).
  
• Drive system and process improvements through insights from field data and platform analytics.
  
• Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., CEA, SERC/DISCOM guidelines) for smart metering systems.
  

• Work with IT and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure data communication and protection of infrastructure.
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Power Systems, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  
• 10+ years of experience in the energy utility sector with at least 3–5 years in AMI/Smart Metering projects.
  
• Proven experience in managing operations of HES, MDMS, and field smart metering infrastructure.
  

Key Skills:

• Deep understanding of AMI architecture, HES-MDMS integration, and meter communication protocols (DLMS/COSEM, MQTT, etc.).
  
• Hands-on experience with leading HES/MDMS platforms (e.g., Trilliant, Landis+Gyr, Sensus, Oracle Utilities, etc.).
  
• Strong vendor and team management skills.
  
• Analytical mindset with experience in using dashboards, reports, and BI tools.
  
• Good understanding of IT-OT convergence, system security, and SCADA/IoT integration is a plus.
