Manager - Software Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead the Software Engineering competence area in India within NPD Engineering organization, including people management, performance management, and team well-being.
• Build, develop, and maintain engineering capabilities in software engineering, covering embedded control systems, simulation, functional safety and autonomy development.
• Own and develop engineering ways of working for software disciplines, including design practices, documentation, quality and cybersecurity standards.
• Ensure consistent technical quality and compliance of software engineering contributions to Product Development initiatives.
• Support Product Development through matrix resourcing, ensuring appropriate software expertise is available when needed.
• Collaborate closely with Architecture & Systems Engineering to ensure alignment with system architecture, interfaces, and safety concepts.
• Work with Validation & Release Management to support testability, verification, and compliance of control system and software solutions.
• Contribute to capacity planning and workload balancing, ensuring sustainable use of engineering resources.
• Drive competence development and learning, including training plans, mentoring, and professional development of technical experts.
• Support the introduction and use of software engineering tools, methods, and simulation environments.
• Promote a culture of engineering excellence, safety awareness, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in long-term capability and workforce planning, aligned with product and technology roadmaps.

Requirements

• Strong experience (5-8 years) in embedded control system software, or other software engineering roles, preferably in mobile machinery, heavy equipment, or related domains.
• Proven experience in line management or technical leadership roles within engineering organizations. (3+ years)
• Solid understanding of modern software engineering processes.
• Experience working in matrix organizations, supporting product or project delivery while maintaining line responsibilities.
• Familiarity with software engineering quality practices, design standards, and documentation requirements.
• Understanding system safety and functional safety in mobile machinery.
• Experience collaborating with systems engineering, software engineering, electric and hydraulic engineering and validation teams.
• Strong people leadership skills, with a coaching and development-oriented mindset.
• Structured and pragmatic approach to problem-solving and engineering management.
• Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and organizational boundaries.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
