Job Description:

What’s the role?

As a Senior Materials & Corrosion Engineer at Shell, you will provide deep technical leadership in materials engineering, corrosion, coatings, and asset integrity management across Shell’s global portfolio. You will work within a 30+ member global expert team, delivering high‑impact R&D and technical solutions that support upstream, downstream, LNG, GTL, and deepwater assets.
This is a senior technical role with influence—shaping multi‑year technology programs, integrity strategies, and next‑generation solutions that enhance safety, reliability, and value while supporting Shell’s transition to a lower‑carbon energy system.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead complex R&D and technical service projects in materials, corrosion, coatings, and integrity management across global assets.

  • Provide senior technical expertise to develop, assess, and deploy integrity management strategies aligned with energy transition objectives.

  • Design, execute, and interpret materials and corrosion laboratory testing programs to support technology development, qualification, and deployment.

  • Deliver materials and integrity solutions across the full lifecycle—from concept development through field application—working closely with global, multidisciplinary experts and external partners.

  • Contribute to technology innovation, digitalization, and improved asset integrity practices to reduce CAPEX, OPEX, and operational risk.

  • Coach, mentor, and technically guide junior engineers, building deep materials and corrosion capability within the organization.

What you bring

  • Master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, or PhD with 4+ years’ experience in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.

  • Experience: Strong, proven background in materials engineering and corrosion, preferably within the oil and gas or energy industry.

  • Added advantage: Prior R&D experience and/or hands‑on field exposure in asset integrity, corrosion management, or materials qualification.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with materials and corrosion laboratory environments, test design, execution, and data interpretation.

  • Solid working knowledge of key industry codes and standards, including ISO 15156, AMPP TM0316, API 571, ASME BPV Section VIII, and ASME Section IX.

  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder‑management skills, cultural adaptability, and a hands‑on, delivery‑focused mindset suited to a global technical leadership role.

After you submit your application, you will receive an email providing a link to an online assessment that is a mandatory part of the process. The email will come from HireVue - please check your spam/junk mailbox if you do not see the email. Once completed, your application will be reviewed to determine next steps. Thank you for your interest in Shell.
