Network Operations & Maintenance: Monitor network performance, manage capacity, and perform routine maintenance and upgrades on network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points).
Troubleshooting & Incident Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for complex network issues. Diagnose and resolve network incidents related to LAN, WAN, and wireless connectivity, including issues with industrial control systems (ICS) and SCADA networks.
Configuration & Implementation: Configure and install new network hardware and software. Implement network changes in accordance with change management policies, ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.
Network Security: Implement and enforce network security policies, including firewall rules, VPN configurations, and intrusion detection/prevention systems, to protect sensitive manufacturing data and intellectual property.
Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams (e.g., systems administrators, cybersecurity) and operational technology (OT) teams to support new projects, resolve cross-functional issues, and ensure seamless integration between IT and OT networks.
Networking Fundamentals: Deep understanding of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs.
Routing & Switching: Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting L2/L3 protocols like OSPF, BGP and EtherChannel. Knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, or similar enterprise-level hardware is often required.
Network Security: Hands-on experience with firewalls, VPN technologies, and access control lists (ACLs).
Wireless Networking: Experience with wireless LAN controllers and Wi-Fi standards
Monitoring & Diagnostics: Competency with network monitoring tools
Manufacturing-Specific Knowledge: Familiarity with industrial protocols and network segmentation for separating IT and OT networks.
