About the role

This role will require external stakeholder relationships in order to develop, manage and deliver lifecycle and new program initiatives/commitments driven by customer facing and operational business units to achieve the outcomes of the role.
Key Stakeholders include: Vendors and Customers

 

What you'll work on
The Network Engineer is an important contributor in ensuring that the Telstra network delivers a superior network experience for our consumer and business customers. You use your telecommunications network skills and experience to contribute to specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in specific network technology domains, including how this technology inter-operates with other technologies.

 

Key accountabilities

Architect, design, build, install, integrate and maintain multiple complex network technologies, platforms and/or systems and their interaction with Telstra processes and systems to deliver products and services to customer business units.

Translate customer (internal, external or regulatory) needs and requirements, using technical principles into realisable products, services, or systems and/or networks infrastructure in a timely, quality and cost-effective way.

Assess capability of vendor solutions and offerings to meet business requirements and manage vendor technology delivery.

HSE Responsibility: Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, comply with and implement any reasonable.

Telstra HSE instruction, policy, standard, minimum requirement or procedure, and support Telstra to meet its duties under the relevant safety and environmental legislation.
 

Your skills & experience

  • 8+ years of experience

  • Solid understanding and experience with Cisco and/or Juniper routing and switching, and standard protocols - TCP/IP, MPBGP, MPLS, LDP, DHCP, RSVP, SR, OSPF, ISIS, L2 protocols, etc.

  • Experience working in CI/CD based DevOps environment and tools

  • Proven experience with Containers deployments (Kubernates, Docker)

  • Experience with Python, Ansible automation

  • Experience on one or more of the following languages (Go – preferred, Java, Javascript)

  • Have worked through complete software lifecycle including requirements, development, deployment, and operational support

  • Proven knowledge of APIs and Web services – REST, JSON, XML

  • Experience with Robot Framework.

  • Linux Administration & Shell Scripting including experience with Migration Script Automation

  • Base Config Management and experience with onboarding of network platforms

  • Comfort with programming and strong grasp of operating systems concepts

  • Operations process knowledge – Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management – worked in DevOps model

  • Demonstrated written/verbal communication, problem solving, interpersonal, presentation and time management skills. Emphasis on technical communication.

  • Able to effectively work through high pressure and complex situations.
