Job Description - Payroll Manager

This role is for one of the Weekday's clients

Salary range: Rs 1500000 - Rs 3000000 (ie INR 15-30 LPA)

Min Experience: 12 years

Location: Chennai

JobType: full-time

The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the complete payroll function of the organization, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing. This role is based in Chennai and requires extensive experience in handling payroll operations, statutory compliance, audits, and coordination with HR and finance teams. The position demands strong domain expertise in payroll, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex payroll structures while ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for employees on a monthly basis
  • Ensure timely and accurate salary disbursement, deductions, and statutory payments
  • Handle payroll components including fixed pay, variable pay, incentives, bonuses, arrears, and reimbursements
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations such as PF, ESI, Professional Tax, Income Tax, Gratuity, and labor laws
  • Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, and coordination with finance teams
  • Manage payroll audits, statutory audits, and respond to regulatory queries and assessments
  • Prepare payroll reports, MIS, variance analysis, and cost statements for management review
  • Coordinate with HR on employee lifecycle changes such as onboarding, exits, promotions, transfers, and compensation revisions
  • Address payroll-related employee queries and resolve discrepancies efficiently
  • Manage payroll vendors, systems, and ensure data accuracy and confidentiality
  • Maintain payroll records, documentation, and standard operating procedures
  • Support process improvements and automation initiatives in payroll operations
