Job Description - Payroll Specialist

This role is for one of the Weekday's clients

Location: kolkata

JobType: full-time

The Payroll Specialist will deliver end-to-end payroll processing and support services for employees across Australia and New Zealand. This role requires strong hands-on payroll expertise, attention to detail, and a customer-centric approach while managing payroll operations across multiple geographies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complete payroll operations including pre-payroll, gross-to-net calculations, post-payroll reconciliation, and validations.
  • Process employee payroll accurately in line with payroll calendars, pay elements, and pay frequencies.
  • Handle complex payroll calculations such as arrears, retro pay, tax balance adjustments, overpayments, and manual checks.
  • Perform payroll accounting, audits, and post-payroll reconciliation including GL and audit reports.
  • Manage timesheet processing, statutory leaves, overtime, and employee tax status updates.
  • Support hire-to-retire HR transactions including HR administration, lodgments, and payroll-related accounting.
  • Process LOA, SCI, leave encashments, long service leave (LSL), and other statutory benefits.
  • Prepare and publish weekly and monthly payroll reports.
  • Support quarter-end and year-end payroll processing, tax filings, and statutory lodgments.
  • Assist with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) audits and respond to auditor requirements.
  • Deliver payroll-related training sessions when required.
  • Maintain payroll documentation, records, and compliance with local regulations.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 3–6 years of hands-on payroll experience for Australia and/or New Zealand geographies.
  • Strong knowledge of ANZ payroll legislation, statutory requirements, and pay elements.
  • Mandatory experience with Oracle HCM; exposure to Workday and MYOB preferred.
  • Ability to manually calculate gross-to-net payroll and handle complex payroll scenarios.
  • Experience with post-payroll reconciliation, audit handling, and compliance reporting.
  • Strong understanding of payroll controls, processes, and data integrity.

Working Conditions

  • Willingness to work extended hours during critical payroll cycles.
  • Ability to work in 24×7 shifts, including night shifts if required.
