Job Description - Plant Manager

Summary:

The Plant Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of the production facility. This position is responsible for maximizing plant capacity while maintaining stringent hygiene standards, product quality, and operational efficiency. The role emphasizes continuous improvement in energy conservation, manpower utilization, and process optimization, all aligned with GMP, ISO, MMPO, and FSMS guidelines. The incumbent ensures accurate material tracking, timely dispatches, proper record-keeping, and compliance with statutory and internal audit requirements. By driving accountability across procurement, sales, inventory, and maintenance functions, the Plant In-Charge contributes directly to customer satisfaction, cost control, and sustainable business performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Achieve targeted production output, quality standards, and timely dispatch of milk and milk products.
  • Ensure all process and service equipment operate reliably with minimal downtime through proactive maintenance and timely repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and disciplined work environment in full compliance with hygiene and safety protocols.
  • Implement energy conservation practices and support continuous improvement in resource efficiency.
  • Oversee daily preparation and review of milk and product material balances, including reconciliation of inter-location transfers.
  • Monitor and minimize process and distribution losses while ensuring accurate production data entry into the SAP Production module.
  • Conduct monthly physical verification and reconciliation of SMP and packing material stocks, ensuring yield targets are met and scrap is disposed of per company norms.
  • Identify and recommend vendor recoveries for material losses or discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate sales reporting by aligning dispatched quantities with invoiced amounts; enforce compliance with approved pricing and payment confirmation before dispatch.
  • Update sales data in the ERP OM module daily.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for stores and spares, including daily updates in SAP, monthly reconciliation of inter-unit transfers, and review of non-moving items.
  • Classify capital and stores items correctly in ERP upon receipt and conduct bi-annual physical verification.
  • Reconcile milk procurement quantities and quality against payments made, ensuring no over payment and strict adherence to third-party agreements.
  • Update procurement data in the SAP Procurement module daily.
  • Monitor idle machinery and implement corrective actions to optimize asset utilization.
  • Track and manage debtor follow-ups to minimize outstanding balances.
  • Address internal audit observations promptly and ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including insurance and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all operational data is updated in ERP applications daily, as per the checklist issued.

Requirements

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science, Food Technology
  • 12 -15  years of progressive experience in plant operations in the dairy.
  • Proven experience in managing production, maintenance, procurement, and inventory systems.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, ISO, MMPO, FSMS, and other quality management standards.
  • Proficiency in SAP ERP systems, particularly in Production, Procurement, and OM modules.
  • Demonstrated ability in data analysis, reporting, and process optimization.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive performance through effective resource allocation.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to safety, hygiene, and compliance.
  • Experience in managing material balance, inventory reconciliation, and cost control.
  • Familiarity with statutory compliance, internal audits, and financial monitoring processes.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
