Power BI Developer

We are looking for a skilled Power BI Developer with 4-6 years of experience in building and developed enterprise-grade applications using Microsoft Power BI Platform. You will work within the Digital Solutions team to build scalable, secure, and high performing business applications used across major global infrastructure and environmental projects.

You will take a developer role in our established Digital Solutions team, working with the latest Microsoft PowerBI technologies, helping deliver high quality, bespoke solutions to our clients. The role is a blend of development, operations & system administration to assist in expanding the deployment of our templated solutions.

• Collaborating with a UK-based team of digital specialists to design, develop, and deploy scalable Power BI reporting solutions.

• Supporting the ongoing enhancement and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and data models aligned with business requirements.

• Developing and maintaining interactive reports and dashboards using Power BI, ensuring high data accuracy and performance optimization.

• Working with various data sources (e.g., SharePoint, SQL, Python script, ArcGIS, APIs) to transform and model data using Power Query and DAX.

• Assisting in the design, development, and delivery of complex, customized reporting solutions, both independently and as part of a team.

• Implementing automated data refresh processes and monitoring data pipelines to support business reporting needs.

• Applying governance best practices, including data security, workspace management, version control, and deployment pipelines.

• Creating and maintaining documentation such as data dictionaries, report specifications, and user guides for Power BI solutions.

 REQUIRED ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in developing Power BI reports and dashboards, including data modeling, DAX calculations, and performance optimization.

• Strong experience in building interactive and insightful visualizations using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.

• Strong understanding of data modeling concepts including relationships, measures, calculated columns, and star schema design.

• Strong working knowledge of SQL (queries, joins, and basic optimization), along with experience in integrating data from multiple sources such as SharePoint Online, APIs, SQL and enterprise systems.

• Experience working with REST APIs and integrating external data into Power BI through connectors and automated workflows. Good to have, if any exposure to ArcGIS integration.

• Familiarity with Power Query (M language) for data transformation, cleansing, and shaping.

• Knowledge of JSON, OData queries, and REST-based integrations for dynamic data retrieval.

• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and requirement translation skills, with exposure to GitHub or Azure DevOps for version control and basic ALM practices.

• Ability to design clean, intuitive, and visually appealing dashboards following UI/UX best practices, accessibility standards, and consistent enterprise styling. 

• Skilled in creating user-friendly dashboards using advanced visuals, filters, drill-throughs, bookmarks, and reusable report components.

• Good to have knowledge about the integrating Power BI with Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse for unified and scalable business solutions.

• Understanding data refresh mechanisms, gateway configuration, row-level security (RLS), and workspace management for enterprise reporting.

• Knowledge of Power BI deployment pipelines, governance, and best practices for report lifecycle management.

• An interest in, or experience with, AI-driven insights within Power BI (e.g., AI visuals, Copilot features) and emerging technologies is desirable.

Education / Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience)
•    With at least 5+ years of experience in Microsoft Power BI Platform Technology.
