Principal Architect — Veryon India (GCC)
Bangalore / Chennai | Hybrid
At Veryon, we build the software that aviation maintenance runs on — helping operators, MROs, airlines, and OEMs keep aircraft in the air with less downtime and fewer surprises.
Veryon operates globally, and India is where we've built our Global Capability Center — today, our largest technology hub anywhere in the company. A significant share of Veryon's core platform work happens here, and the technical leadership layer is still being shaped as the hub grows.
If you come from a SaaS background, have real hands-on experience taking legacy systems through genuine modernization — not just maintaining them — and want a role where your technical judgment shapes direction rather than just executing someone else's, this is worth a serious look.
The Role,
We're hiring a Principal Engineer to drive technical architecture and design for Veryon's core platform systems.
The mandate is broad: define engineering standards, guide multiple teams through complex design decisions, and own the technical direction that determines whether Veryon's platform holds up as it scales. You'll spend real time in legacy-to-modern migration work, architecture reviews, and production reliability problems. You'll also be expected to push AI-assisted engineering from experiment to default practice across the teams you influence.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Architecture and system design. Lead the design of scalable backend services and distributed systems, with a clear view of where the platform needs to go.
- Legacy modernization, hands-on. Guide the incremental re-architecture of systems that carry real technical history — balancing stability against progress and making the judgment calls that come with modernizing a live, business-critical platform.
- Engineering standards. Define and drive design patterns, coding standards, and best practices across teams — the kind of standards that hold up under real production load, not just in a design doc.
- Cross-team technical influence. Guide multiple teams through complex design and problem-solving without direct authority over them.
- Product and DevOps partnership. Work closely with product and DevOps teams to turn business requirements into technical solutions that are buildable and maintainable.
- Selective hands-on contribution. Get into critical code paths and design reviews when it matters.
- Cloud-native reliability. Ensure systems are built for cloud environments (AWS/Azure) with real observability, resilience, and scalability.
- Production ownership. Guide teams through incident management and root cause analysis, improving operational maturity rather than just resolving the immediate fire.
- AI-first engineering practically applied. Drive adoption of AI-assisted development — tools like Claude and GitHub Copilot — as a normal part of how code gets written and reviewed.
- Mentorship. Elevate the technical skill and design thinking of engineers and senior developers across the org.
What We're Looking For
- 8-12 years of software development experience, with deep expertise in building and architecting scalable, distributed backend systems.
- Real, hands-on exposure to legacy system modernization — migrating older, business-critical platforms toward modern, cloud-native architecture.
- Hands-on experience with both programming language (Java,.NET)
- Strong grounding in system design and architectural patterns (Clean Architecture, Domain-Driven Design, or equivalent), with proven experience designing microservices and distributed systems at scale.
- Solid data architecture experience — data modelling, performance at scale, and the trade-offs that come with growing datasets.
- Extensive experience designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services for enterprise or SaaS platforms.
- Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), enterprise integration, and platform modernization
- ·Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and release management.
- A track record of driving technical direction and influencing multiple teams without formal authority.
- Practical, current experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar), with a clear-eyed view of where they genuinely help and where they don't.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills — particularly the ability to build credibility with North American engineering leadership across time zones.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards across teams.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
What Veryon Stands For
- Fueled by Customers — every engineering decision ties back to keeping our customers' aircraft in the air.
- Win Together — we build as a team, and we hire people who make their teams better.
- Make It Happen — commitments are commitments; we adapt, but we deliver.
- Innovate to Elevate — we set the bar in aviation technology and treat failure as a learning input, not a verdict.
Worth Knowing
This role sits within Veryon's largest global technology hub at a key stage of our growth. It's a genuine opportunity for someone who wants deep technical scope and real influence.
