Role Summary
As a Quality Engineer - Test Automation, you will contribute to the testing and quality assurance of Staples Print's eCommerce platform by designing, executing, and maintaining automated and manual tests. Working alongside senior QE and development engineers, you will build automation scripts for web UI and API layers, test AI -powered application features, and help integrate quality into every phase of the Software Development Life Cycle. This role is a strong entry point for an engineer with a passion for quality who wants to grow into a full automation and AI testing career path.
Duties & Responsibilities
-Develop and maintain automated test scripts for web UI using Selenium WebDriver or Playwright.
-Build and execute API test cases using RestAssured, Postman/Newman, or equivalent tools.
-Assist in designing and running performance and load test scenarios using StressStimulus, Apache JMeter, or similar tools.
-Execute functional, regression, smoke, and sanity tests across web and API layers as part of sprint cycles.
-Participate in executing test cases for AI -powered application features under the guidance of senior QE engineers, focusing on following defined steps and logging observations clearly.
-Experiment with AI -assisted tools (such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT) to help write or improve test scripts and reduce repetitive manual work.
-Be open to learning how testing AI -powered features differs from testing traditional deterministic outputs and apply guidance from senior team members accordingly.
-Log, reproduce, document, and track defects clearly in defect management tools (JIRA or equivalent).
-Contribute to the development of test plans, test cases, and test data strategies.
-Participate in sprint ceremonies and collaborate closely with development and product teams.
-Maintain and update existing automation suites as features evolve.
-Actively learn new testing tools, patterns, and practices and apply them with guidance.
-Contribute to test reporting execution summaries, defect metrics, and pass/fail trends.
Requirements
Years of Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in eCommerce and automation engineering role.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with high -traffic, large -scale distributed systems and cloud platforms.
Basic Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
-2+ years of experience in software quality engineering or testing.
-Hands -on experience with Selenium WebDriver for web UI test automation.
-Familiarity with at least one modern UI framework: Playwright, Cypress, or TestCafe.
-Familiarity with API testing tools: Postman, RestAssured, or equivalent.
-Exposure to performance testing tools: StressStimulus, JMeter, or Gatling — conceptual or practical.
-Basic scripting or programming ability in Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript.
-Understanding of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and core test design techniques.
-Genuine curiosity about how AI -powered features work and an eagerness to learn how to test them effectively with guidance.
-General awareness that AI -generated outputs can vary and an openness to learning how this affects how we verify application behavior.
-Familiarity with defect management and test tracking tools (JIRA, Azure Test Plans, or TestRail).
-Familiarity with Git and basic version control workflows.
-Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and eagerness to learn.
-Good communication and collaboration skills in a team environment.
-Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git / SVN
Preferred Qualifications
-Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and integrating tests into automated build processes.
-Familiarity with BDD frameworks: Cucumber or SpecFlow.
-Exposure to Page Object Model (POM) design pattern for test structure.
-Familiarity with testing RESTful APIs and interpreting JSON/XML responses.
-Exposure to cloud -hosted test environments (Azure, AWS, or Browserstack).
-Experience in retail or eCommerce quality engineering contexts.
-ISTQB Foundation certification or equivalent quality certification.
-Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices.
