In 2018, we began with a WhatsApp group with a simple hypothesis: people in tier-2/3 towns weren’t really using the internet meaningfully yet. We believed that if we started with local content in their own language, they’d come back every day; once there was a habit and trust, that same space could naturally grow into classifieds and, eventually, something they used for almost everything online.This spark became Lokal. Our first instinct was to put everything in one place & one app - local updates, classifieds, jobs, matrimony and more. It worked, till it stopped working. Users gave us the insight - when one use case outweighs the others, everything else seems like noise. We listened. Like how Craigslist quietly seeded a generation of focused companies & marketplaces, we began unbundling and verticalising.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and creative Tamil Media Writer who can take complete ownership of our magazine-style long-form content and Infographics shareable card formats. This is a high-responsibility role where you will help shape the voice and direction of our Tamil content strategy across internal platforms, staying ahead of trends and ensuring audience engagement at scale. The ideal candidate is not just a writer but a storyteller, Graphics trend-spotter, and collaborator.

Key Responsibilities 
Research, write, and edit long-form News based / Analysis essays and magazine-style content on both trending and evergreen topics.

• Create content ideas and provide guidance for Infographics, collaborating with designers to visualize impactful stories.
• Spot breaking and trending topics early and work with the design team to turn them into high-impact visual stories.
• Write hook-lined scripts for shareable cards, in-app features, and various internal content platforms.
• Leverage strong understanding of Push Notifications (PN), Click-Through Rate (CTR), and other content performance metrics to optimize engagement.
• Craft engaging and attention-grabbing push notification titles that drive audience curiosity and clicks.
• Use Google Sheets to manage content pipelines, track deadlines, and contribute to operational tasks.
• Take full ownership of the Tamil Media vertical (magazines + Infographic shareable cards), ensuring content quality and performance.
• Maintain a strong grasp of the pulse of Tamil-speaking audiences, especially in tier 2, tier 3 cities, and rural areas.
• Stay informed on national and international developments to ensure content remains timely and relevant.

• 1–3 years of relevant experience in a startup or digital media company.
• Understanding of social media dynamics and content that drives engagement.
• Comfortable working on a personal device and starting tasks with minimal onboarding.
• A strong writer fluent in Tamil (reading, writing, and speaking) with a knack for turning complex topics into engaging narratives.
• Graduate in Journalism, Mass Communication, Literature, or a related field.
• Highly interested in current affairs, local culture, and storytelling through graphic formats.
• Detail-oriented with excellent research skills and a strong sense of visual storytelling.
• Comfortable working under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative and open to feedback while working across content, design, and product teams.
• Knowledge of push notifications and audience engagement strategies is a plus.
• Exposure to AI tools is an added advantage
• Must bring their own laptop to perform day-to-day tasks.
